Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. 40% Performs periodontal probing, scaling, root planning, and polishing required to remove calculus deposits, accretions, excess or flash restorative materials and stains from the exposed surfaces of the teeth and beneath the gingiva. Performs dental prophylaxis and applies fluorides or sealants as necessary. 15% Prepares workspaces, materials, and tools for dental procedures. Sterilizes tools and equipment. Positions chair and places napkin over patients. 10% Performs oral screenings and documents findings. 10% Explains preventative care, provides oral hygiene instruction, and provides nutritional counseling in relation to oral care. 10% Exposes and processes radiographs of patients. Mounts and labels radiographs appropriately, and evaluates them for diagnostic quality. 5% Schedules appointments and maintains call lists. 5% Files and retrieves dental records and reports. Ensures that all records are maintained in accordance with applicable policies and procedures. 5% Performs other related duties as assigned. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Exercise therapeutic care, custody, and control over inmates 2. Effectively communicate verbally and in writing 3. Use and maintain various equipment and tools of the dental profession 4. Operate basic office equipment 5. Maintain regular and reliable attendance 6. Establish and maintain effective working relationships 7. Maintain an active license to practice as a dental hygienist issued by the PA State Board of Dentistry 8. Visually observe inmates’ activities 9. Be mobile over all types of physical surfaces and levels 10. Hear and identify sounds (voices, whistle, buzzer, lock release, scuffling, sudden quiet) 11. Attend and participate in all mandatory training and/or testing 12. Work overtime in compliance with provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement |
