The individual is responsible and accountable for providing direct patient care and for providing total medical services in various ward units at Danville State Hospital. Work is performed under the supervision of a Supervisory Physician. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Provides medical services for patients in accordance with generally accepted and usual medical practice. Medical services include, but are not limited to, physical and neurological examination, diagnosis, subsequent care and treatment. Documents assessment and treatment according to established hospital policy/procedure and accreditation/certification agency requirements. Acts as a consultant to other physicians in situations which involve medical considerations. Arranges for consultative services for patients who have complex diagnostic or therapeutic problems when these services are not available at Danville State Hospital. Evaluates the recommendations made by the consultant and evaluates the need for further consultative services. Participates in the treatment planning process for patients when requested to do so by the treatment team leader, by the Supervisory Physician and/or when the patient’s physical condition impacts on the patient’s psychiatric condition and treatment. Consults with members of appropriate disciplines and confers with patients, relatives, other physicians, the courts, the base service units, and other interested agencies regarding the condition, welfare, and progress of the patient and to ensure continuity of care. Participates in departmental, hospital, and other assigned performance improvement activities. Attends meetings as called by the Supervisory Physician, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Executive Officer, President of the Medical Staff, and other authorized personnel. Serves as medical representative to assigned departmental, hospital, and statewide committees and task groups. Maintains professional competency by attending and participating in continuing medical education activities relating to the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of physical problems in mentally ill individuals. Deals with work-related issues, both clinical and non-clinical, through proper channels, as defined by the Danville State Hospital communication matrix. Performs other related duties and special projects, within the individual’s capability and training, as assigned by the Supervisory Physician, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Executive Officer, President of the Medical Staff, or other authorized personnel. |
