Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. This is skilled work at the journeyman level in several trades. This work involves proficiency in several trades, with working conditions and the degree of lead work exercised differing by location within the facility and by the nature of assignments. Employee exercises technical independence in determining work methods and procedures, and receives assignments orally or through written instructions, which may be accompanied by sketches or diagrams. Review of work is received from supervisor through inspections and discussions. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Planned working time percentages are approximate and can change on a daily basis due to operational needs. 80% of working time: •Performs work commensurate with trade specialties (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, air conditioning and refrigeration work) as required. •Installs, maintains, and makes minor and major repairs to equipment including, but not limited to the following: air compressors, sum pumps, vacuum pumps, circulating pumps, heating systems (steam, hot water and gas), hot water generators, plumbing fixtures, dishwashers, conveyors, subveyors, water mixing valves, water coolers, drinking fountains, washers, steam operated laundry equipment, electrical and gas operated kitchen equipment, electrical control panels, emergency generators, electric circuits, wall plugs, lighting fixtures, and fans. Operates various machine shop equipment as required. •Repairs doors, door frames, flooring, and furniture; fabricates and installs temporary partitions; builds forms; and operates and maintains wood lathe, sanders, jointer, power saw, planer, and related power and hand tools to perform assigned carpentry duties. Operates trucks in support of daily institutional transportation requirements. •Paints interiors and exteriors of buildings; and performs masonry work in connection with buildings, foundations, walks, and walls. •Demonstrates knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, practices and safety precautions of the trades involved. •Removes snow from sidewalks and parking lots using basic snow removal equipment including snowplow and/or a salt spreader to eliminate slippery conditions as needed. Cuts grass using lawn care equipment. •Operates stretcher and stretcher transport vehicle on resident trips. Operates mini-vans and wheelchair equipped vans on resident trips. 20 % of working time: •Maintains associated preventive maintenance records and schedules. |
