Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. Under the general supervision of the Elevator Division supervisor, chief, and/or immediate supervisor in the Bureau of Occupational and Industrial Safety, assists with performing technical and clerical duties required in the inspection of elevators and other lifting apparatus to determine and enforce compliance with State requirements. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Assists with performing inspections of elevators and other lifting apparatus to determine whether the load for each installation is designed properly, can safely sustain the intended load and that all safety devices are functioning properly. By actual observation from within and on top of these load carrying devices, within machinery, hoistway or travelway areas visually examines and/or operates cars, controls, hoistways, guide rails, suspension means, counterweights, all safety devices and locking mechanisms, doors and gates, electrical wiring and apparatus, hydraulic systems, machinery and other appurtenances for conformance to safety standards. Assists with inspecting new installation or major repairs of elevators and other lifting apparatus to determine compliance with approved plans. Assists with evaluating conditions and circumstances to determine if elevators found to be unsafe may continue in operation or be sealed out of service. Maintains diary of work to be performed within designated territory according to regulation requirements. Assists with investigating elevator accidents and serious matters unresolved by authorized inspectors. Assists with preparing detailed report of each inspection or investigation, submits recommendations to bring device(s) to code requirements and recommends action to be taken against violators. Assists with interpreting applicable rules and regulations for manufacturers, owners, and users of elevators, building contractors, authorized inspectors and other interested persons. Assists with establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with contractors, architects, engineers, building owners and other code officials. Attends staff meetings and training sessions as required. Maintains daily records of activities and submits reports on a timely basis. Performs other tasks as required. |
