Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Performs Desk Duties and/or Patrol Duties by vehicle or foot patrol. Compliance with all facility operating instructions and regulations to include the Security Manual, Policies and Procedures, Theft Prevention Manual, Security and Safety Management Plan, Emergency Operations Plan, and Special Orders. Responsible to know Security’s role in fire alarm and escort of emergency response agencies coming into service on TSH property. Responds to all fire/smoke and intrusion alarms and takes appropriate actions. Acknowledge and/or clear the Fire Alarm System Computer when directed by the Hospital Fire and Safety Marshal, Safety Director, or Chief Operating Officer. Responds to employee assistance with knowledge on battery boost and unlocking kit usage. Directly responsible for traffic and parking control according to established policy. Conducts foot and/or vehicle searches for missing patients as per policy. In the event of a patient search, the Desk Officer will attempt to locate the missing patient through the use of the CCTV equipment. (The Desk Officer should remain at the desk unless authorized to participate in the search by the Security Supervisor, Safety Director, Chief Operating Officer, or Nurse Manager/Supervisor.) Conducts Security related investigations and completes all required documentation. Performs additional duties as directed by the Safety Director, Chief Operating Officer, or Chief Executive Officer. Makes rounds by foot or vehicle of various areas, buildings, and grounds, making all reports relative to any infraction of Hospital rules and regulations. Reports maintenance and/or safety related problems found or reported to the Officer. Follows Shift Tasks and Routine when performing routine duties. Maintains communications via portable radio, including 800 MHz radio, with other Officers, others on the Hospital radio net or incoming/responding emergency personnel. Checks and reports the condition of the hospital’s roads during inclement weather (i.e., ice, snow, heavy rain ). Removes any small debris (small branches, etc.) from road ways. Calls in road and/or sidewalk crews when necessary. Checks the condition of the security vehicle and reports any discrepancies with the vehicle. Refuels, cleans, and washes the Security vehicle. Makes deliveries and pickups to and from various buildings of mail and other items. Escort’s visitors, and transports patients and staff as requested. Reviews Log Book, Incident Reports, and other communications at the beginning of each shift. Maintains (in chronological order) a complete log of all activities that have occurred during the shift in the Security Officer Log Book. Files Incident Reports (with appropriate attachments) using office computer as required. Investigates any unusual events discovered or assigned and completes an Incident Report. Desk duties require operating the Security phone to include programming phones. Answers telephone calls and tranfers calls when appropriate. Act as the Hospital Information Center. Issues directions and gives non-confidential information to visitors and staff, signs out keys to authorized persons. Operates access and egress equipment. Monitors and operates CCTV equipment. Takes appropriate actions to monitored events. Makes announcements and pages over the hospital public address system. Checks for appropriate I.D. badges/privilege levels. Assures all visitors are properly signed in and provided a temporary I.D. tag. Questions any individual without a valid I.D. badge and takes appropriate actions. Checks employee keys and I.D. badges. Security Officers will be required to be in possession of a current/valid Pennsylvania driver’s license. Directly responsible for the shadowing of new security officers on shift tasks and routines. Initials off on shadowing/orientation checklist of those officers and maintains communication with the supervisor and/or dept. head of any issues or problems discovered. Security Officers will be trained in ATV usage. Security Officers will be trained and certified in MANDT training and CPR/AED. |

Example: In response to a customer inquiry, this work involves researching the status of an activity and preparing a formal response for the supervisor’s signature. Supervision is directed through posted instructions, general instruction through periodic conferences with Security Officer 2 or Safety Director, and specific direction through daily written or verbal assignments. Work is reviewed through inspection, log/report review, on-going evaluations and shift conferences. Officers will consult with the Security Supervisor, Safety Director, Chief Operating Officer, or Administrator on Call on all issues not specifically covered by Policy/Procedure, Employee rules and regulations, Shift tasks and routine, Written or verbal directive, Security Manual, Theft Prevention Manual, or Security and Safety Management Plan. |
