Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Provides unskilled and limited semi-skilled manual labor at M K Goddard State Park.

This position performs duties that are routinely executed seven days a week and will be routinely scheduled to work weekends, evenings and holidays as needed for park operations and to meet seasonal needs.


Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Performs light and heavy manual labor tasks, including a wide variety of construction and maintenance work.
Assists maintenance staff in building construction and repairs.
Digs holes and trenches with hand tools and cleans culverts.
Collects litter and garbage and disposes of in dumpsters.
Paints signs, installs posts, and mounts signs; places and repairs picnic tables; places fire rings, trash cans, and bumper blocks.
Assists in servicing and repairing equipment.
Removes leaves and other debris from sidewalks, walkways, roadways, and other areas.

General custodial type cleaning of restrooms, floors, windows; cleans and empty garbage cans, picks up litter, cleans buildings, stocks paper supplies; performs routine maintenance and repairs to marina and park structures.

Mows grass using a variety of equipment both powered and un-powered: lawn tractors, hand mowers, weed-eaters, and sickles. Conducts general landscaping plus pruning, cutting, brushing, and other tasks aligned with park resource management plan.

Employee must be able to interact with others (patrons, volunteers, and employees) in a friendly cooperative manner.

Performs or assists with other park maintenance tasks as needed and/or directed by a park manager or maintenance supervisor.

Performs semi-skilled work alone or assists a skilled worker in performing routine tasks in the maintenance and construction at a State Park.

Makes repairs to buildings and facilities, using tools of the carpentry, electrical, plumbing and other building trades.

Operates and assists in the maintenance, care, and cleaning of vehicles and equipment used throughout the park.

Builds simple forms for cement work using carpenter tools; mixes and places cement; finishes cement using mason tools; lays stone and block walls.

Performs ground maintenance by mowing or cutting weeds or grass using a riding mower, hand mower, or weed eater; cuts firewood; picks up litter and trash; loads and moves materials in dump trucks or pick up trucks; cleans grills; sweeps paved areas; digs holes and ditches; cleans drains and culverts. Duties also include site preparation, seeding and establishment of new turf areas; planting and maintaining of trees and shrubs.

Paints and/or stains park buildings, signs, gates, etc.

Responsible for the complete performance of general housekeeping and building maintenance by cleaning and supplying restrooms, office, and all other buildings. Makes minor routine repairs such as replacing light bulbs or tightening fixtures.

Is responsible for the safe and proper use of all equipment, power tools and hand tools.

Assists park visitors and disseminates information in a friendly, helpful manner.

Completes all necessary forms/records, such as daily records, automotive mileage sheets, fuel dispensing records and leave slips.

Operates two-way radio in accordance with proper procedure.

Performs related duties as required.
