Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. This position is part of the maintenance crew at the State Park Complex of French Creek/Marsh Creek. The position reports to the Park Maintenance Supervisor who schedules, trains, evaluates, and supervises this position. An Employee in this position performs various types of general maintenance jobs, which require operation of vehicles and equipment, use of tools and lifting and moving objects up to 60lbs. Employee may work outside in all types of weather conditions and during weekends and holidays as operational needs require. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Performs ground maintenance by mowing or cutting weeds or grass, using a riding mower, hand mower, weed eater, chainsaw or other equipment and tools; picks up litter and trash; loads and moves materials; cleans fire rings & grills; sweeps paved areas; digs holes and ditches; cleans drains and culverts. Duties also include site preparation, seeding and establishment of new turf areas; planting and maintaining trees and shrubs. Application of pesticides /herbicides under the direction of certified pesticide applicator. Performs Trail Maintenance Responsible for the complete performance of general housekeeping and building maintenance by cleaning and supplying restrooms, pit latrines, offices, family cabins and all other buildings. Makes minor routine repairs such as replacing light bulbs or tightening fixtures. Assists and takes direction from skilled workers in the operation and maintenance of complex subsystems such as water treatment and distribution; sewage collection and treatment; and swimming pool. Accompanies skilled workers in performing jobs explained by these workers. Also assists in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and cement work. May build simple forms for cement work using carpenter tools; mixes and places cement; finishes cement using mason tools; and lays stone and block for pathways, walls, etc May act as a lead worker with other employees or special program people to guide them in accomplishing assigned tasks. Assists in maintaining vehicles and equipment by helping lubricate, change oil filters, make minor adjustments, change tires, and any other routine servicing recommended by manufacturers. Maintains safe working conditions and attitudes at all times. Uses safe operating procedures and practices while completing assignments. Understands all Park/Bureau safety regulations and policies, and applies them as necessary. Is responsible for the safe and proper use of all equipment, tools, materials and vehicles. Maintains safe atmosphere by wearing clothing that does not create unsafe conditions. Maintains safe park conditions by reporting all unsafe conditions to Supervisor and/or Park Safety Officer immediately. Reports all accidents as soon as possible to Supervisor. Paints and/or stain all park buildings, signs, gates, etc. Works in a manner consistent with the Department’s policy on Affirmative Action by assuring that all actions and relationships at work do not reveal discriminatory behavior towards co-workers, supervisors, or the public. Assists park visitors and disseminates information in a friendly, helpful manner. Have a good, working knowledge of all park rules, regulations, policies, etc. Keeps records by completing all necessary forms/records, such as daily records, automotive mileage sheets, fuel dispensing records, leave slips, in a neat and accurate manner. Operates two-way radio in accordance with proper procedure. Will be required to work weekends, holidays, and, under unusual circumstances, varied shifts, during the park's busy season.
