Assists in production of wood shop products, picnic tables, and all nursery operations detailed below. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Wood Shop Operation Duties: -Assists with the set-up and operation of wooden sign shop equipment; including band saw, radial arm saw, planer, table saw, joiner, power miter saw -Assists skilled workers with maintenance of wooden sign shop equipment as required -Assists skilled workers when necessary with the maintenance of the Wood Sign Shop -Operates hand and power tools in the wooden sign shop -Follows instructions given by Supervisor in the construction of wood signs and wood projects from sign orders, and blueprints checking for accuracy -Assists in the Wooden Sign Shop in tasks such as choosing lumber for signs and kiosks, cutting lumber for signs, sanding and routing wooden signs and staining and painting wooden signs -Follows Wooden Sign Shop safety policies and practices -Moves lumber from lumber yard to Wooden Sign Shop in absence of equipment operator or other maintenance staff -Packages completed wooden sign and wood projects for shipment to customers -Assists in maintaining a clean work environment for all -Loads by hand or forklift, wooden signs and projects in absence of equipment operator or other maintenance staff Table Shop Operation Duties: -Handles lumber in Picnic Table assembly line -Assists with sorting and stacking machined Picnic Table parts -Feeds sorted lumber into table shop equipment such as multiple trim saws, spindle borer, planer, straight line rip saw, and cut-off saw -Stacks and strips green lumber for air drying in Penn Lumber Yard -Assists with the set-up of lumber bottoms for aligning lumber stacks in lumber yard -Assists skilled workers with Table Shop equipment maintenance and set-up as required -Assists skilled workers with Table Shop Building maintenance as required -Follows Table Shop safety policies and practices -Assists in maintaining a clean working environment for all -Packages Picnic Table hardware such as carriage bolts, nuts, washers, and nails -Assembles Picnic Table kits checking for accuracy of parts contained within each kit Nursery Operation Duties: -Assist with placement and removal of sunshades and snow fence on nursery beds -Assists with sowing and covering seed in the nursery seedbeds -Assists with lifting tree seedlings during spring lifting season -Operates lawn mowers and weed eaters in maintaining nursery property -Operates backpack sprayers for applying insecticides and herbicides under guidance of licensed applicator -Assists in the collection of forest tree seed -Collects and transports pine needles from plantations for nursery use -Weeds nursery seedbeds -Assists with maintenance of nursery seed orchards fences and gates -Assists in maintaining a clean working environment for all -Operates vehicles to transport materials and workers to various job sites -Follows Nursery safety policies and practices -Assists with fertilizer applications -Assists with greenhouse operations -Assists with maintenance of irrigation lines -Assists skilled workers with building and grounds maintenance, including light electrical and plumbing tasks. Miscellaneous Duties: -Attends safety training as directed -Performs other related job duties as required |
