Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Provide technical support and assistance for forestry staff responsible for the sustainability of the forest resource on the Elk State Forest. Technical support and assistance will be provided in a manner consistent with the State Forest Resource Management Plan. Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Provide GPS survey data and delineate State Forest Timber Sale boundaries, herbicide spray blocks and planting sites as laid out by staff foresters. 2. Collect GPS field data and prepare maps based on data collected. 3. Record field data and enter for data processing. 4. Assist with the execution of projects planned by staff foresters including, but not limited to: A. deer fence construction and maintenance. B. tree planting. C. timber marking. D. herbicide application. E. wildlife habitat management. 5. Obtain timber volumes by marking and/or cruising as directed by the forester responsible for the sale. 6. Collect field data associated with compartment and landscape exams as directed by staff forester. 7. Conduct surveys and prepare resource inventory and land-use maps. 8. Implement herbicide, tree planting, and other plans as developed by staff foresters. 9. Assist with the implementation and maintenance of recreation projects designed by District staff. 10.Assist District Forest Pest Management Coordinator with surveillance flights, ground checking and control programs. 11.Assist in conducting field surveys for forest pests, prepare sample maps and deliver pesticides for control programs. 12.Assist with forest fire prevention, pre-suppression and suppression activities. 13.Report fires by radio, telephone. Assist with recruitment and training of forest fire wardens and fire crews. Prepare and submit fire reports and conduct investigations as directed by District staff. 14.Prepare reports and maintain records as directed. 15.Perform other job-related duties as directed by the District Forester. |

These decisions are made in the field based on training and previous direction, they are generally qualitative in nature. 2.Needed regeneration strategies. These decisions are usually made in conjunction with the supervisor or forester responsible for coordinating the project. 3.Daily work activities are decided upon with the concurrence of the supervisor. 4.Prioritizing tasks and work activities. These decisions are made with and without prior approval. 5.Decisions associated with collecting field data are based on previous training and direction provided the forester responsible for coordinating the project. |
