Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

To primarily assist forester/crew leader of the southern forest inventory region in following forest inventory sampling protocols as documented in the field manuals developed by the Resource Inventory and Monitoring Section to collect data necessary for monitoring the condition, growth, and health of state forest lands. Additionally, this position will provide support functions for other program areas within the Bureau of Forestry and assist with Forest Health, Forest Management, Ecological Services, Forest Fire Protection, etc. on an as needed basis.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

1.Assist in the establishment of new and re-measure inventory plots.
Tasks: Locate existing plots, or set up and document new plots, using basic surveying techniques involving the use of aerial photographs, maps, compass, chaining tapes, and electronic surveying devices. Collect and record all field measurements as detailed in the inventory manuals.

2.Operate electronic equipment to measure, store, retrieve, and organize inventory data.
Tasks: Operate hand held data collectors, survey lasers, and global positioning units. Operate electronic scanners to store images of tree increment cores.

3.Attend training in the technical aspects of multiple resource inventories, computer systems, application software, and other training as required by their supervisor.

4.Assist in suppression of wildland and prescribed fire as needed.

5.Assist in the marking of trees for timber sale prescriptions as needed.

6.Assist in the laying out of timber sale boundaries/landings/haul roads/skid roads as needed.
