Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. The employee in this position is responsible for performing structural and aircraft firefighting, fire prevention inspections of Air Force buildings and aircraft, inspections of fire protection systems, standby fire watches at hazardous operations in building and aircraft, standing watch at alarm-receiving equipment, and participating in training programs. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Respond to all emergencies involving buildings, aircraft, vehicles, rescue calls or other types of alarms, serving primarily as rescue crew members or other positions of similar or related capacity while fighting fires. Perform rescue work involving the removal of personnel from buildings, aircraft, vehicle or other situations where they may be trapped or life is endangered. Remove canopy enclosures on aircraft or other aircraft enclosures to make rescues, assist or remove persons via ladders, stairs, fire escapes, chutes, ropes or other available means by carrying, dragging or lifting. May administer First Aid, Basic Life Support, Artificial Respiration or CPR. Operate various types of breathing apparatus in furnishing respiratory protection in oxygen-deficient atmosphere containing excessive amounts of combustion gases in periods of extreme temperatures and humidity. Perform firefighting operations using this equipment, including search of premises, use of hose lines and ventilation practices. Operate and maintain various types of forcible entry and rescue tools for aircraft and structural firefighting, including power-operated tools. Operate equipment under extreme conditions of heat, smoke and body positions in areas involving spilled fuel, ordnance material and other flammable material at aircraft accidents. Inspect, test, service and maintain portable fire extinguishers of various types, including recharging. Conduct inspections and tests of installed fire protection equipment under guidance from supervisors. This includes those systems for reporting fires and aircraft accidents, hydrants, water distribution systems and sprinkler or chemical–type extinguishing systems. Maintain and test fire hoses by re-coupling, numbering, loading and unloading apparatus and annual or infrequent service tests as required. Operate, test and maintain special extinguishing devices and agents used in aircraft protection and for flammable liquid fires, including foam, dry chemical, Halon 1211, Co2, Class D extinguishing agents and other special equipment. Perform standby functions during aircraft fueling operations, aircraft engine maintenance and tests, ammunition handling, welding/burning and other hazardous operations requiring personnel and/or apparatus in a ready status at the scene. Perform standby watches at public assembly events or meetings and ensure compliance with fire regulations. Perform fire hazard inspections of sleeping areas, recreation areas, and service clubs/lounges, prior to securing daily on a rotating assignment. Perform alarm room operator (ARO) duties receiving telephone calls, radio transmissions, fire alarms, crash alarms or other emergencies. Maintain and record required journal for official records. Perform duties associated with routine cleaning and maintenance of fire station and adjacent grounds. Inspect runways and taxiways for loose gear, debris, broken pavement or other visual hazards prior to start of daily flight operations when requested by DOD senior fire officer, control tower or other authority. Participate in firefighting techniques, familiarization of structures, aircraft processes, equipment, contentions and their protection requirements. Serve as driver/operator or crew member/crew chief as assigned. **Maintain relevant firefighting training certifications. These include: Firefighter II, Airport Firefighter, Hazardous Materials Operations, Hazardous Materials Awareness, Driver/Operator Pumper, Driver/Operator ARFF, and Driver/Operator Mobile Water Supply.** **Obtain and maintain T1/Favorable Clearance for access to restricted areas and federal network access.** Perform work in accordance with the DMVA general safety rules and safety rules for this position. Immediately report all workplace injuries or incidents to the supervisor, and/or immediately correct any safety hazards in the work area or report same to the supervisor. Perform other related duties as required. |
