Position Purpose:

Under supervision of a Highway Foreman III(Bridge), the incumbent independently performs a variety of skilled trade dutiesin the planning, estimating, ordering of materials, constructing and finishing of a variety of buildings, drainage structures oraccessory structures using lumbar, piping, concrete, or structural steel.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Performs a combination of skilled trades duties building concrete forms, pouring and finishing concrete and performing stonemasonry duties on a specialized bridge maintenance crew on projects throughout the Maintenance District area. Work assignments include measuring, cutting, fitting, and erecting concrete forms, building wooden structure walls and partitions, repairing doors, windows and similar carpentry duties; mixing concrete for use on site or directing placement of ready mixed concrete for wing- and end walls, culverts, inlet boxes, retaining walls, footers and similar structures, ensuring proper finishing and curing of concrete structures; and cutting and fitting, grouting and pointing of stone structures as required. In the absence of the foreman, the incumbent may perform acting or lead work functions for crew members.
Performs manual laboring duties using hand tools such as shovels, rakes, hammers, and hand saws; uses motorized hand equipment such as power saws, compressors, jack hammers, tampers, and pumps; selects proper tools and work methods for job assignments uses them in prescribed manner to minimize wear and breakage and maximize efficiency and quality; reports any missing or broken equipment as it is noted.
Participates in maintaining a safe work environment for self, co-workers and motoring public by following proper safety procedures and equipment; maintains awareness of work area helping self and others to avoid unnecessary risks and hazards; reports all personal injuries immediately when they occur to get proper treatment and minimize risk of further injury.
Follows proper attendance and call off procedures. Schedules non-emergency absences in advance; observes start/stop times, breaks, and meal times; works efficiently and effectively alone and with others; is available for overtime emergency responses; and minimizes nonproductive and down time for self and crew.
