Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Provides equipment and machinery body repair painting, building repair and equipment repair support to the County Maintenance Division.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Performs a variety of tasks in the body repair, painting and maintenance of equipment, and machinery in order to ensure the safety of the traveling public. Work assignments require knowledge and proficiency in the trades of body work, painting, carpentry, welding, masonry, electrical, and plumbing. These trades are performed at a journeyman level.

Maintains and performs body work on equipment to include the painting of equipment.
Responsible for the mounting and unmounting of tires on all Department equipment to support the mechanics.

Performs a variety of masonry work in connection with maintaining the county maintenance buildings, bridges, guiderails, walks, retaining walls, foundations, concrete block walls, and structures by building forms, finishing concrete, and sealing it when appropriate. Employee performs plumbing or electrical work in connection with maintaining the county maintenance buildings. Plumbing and electrical work to include repairs.

Operates a variety of construction equipment in the performance of duties such as arc welders, mig welders, paint guns, tire machines, pipe threaders, concrete saws, chain saws, air compressors, hammer drills, jackhammers, chipping hammers, de-scaler, generators, pumps, carpentry tools, power tools, forklifts, personal lifting devices, bucket trucks, and a wide variety of hand tools and other power and pneumatic tools.

Performs minor mechanical repairs to equipment in the field and in the county maintenance shed in order to have the equipment operational. Performs welding repairs to construction equipment and snow plows.

Performs and documents pre-operation and post-operation checks, material usage, and makes necessary field adjustments to permit safe operation and minimize wear of equipment and tools.

Follows proper call-off procedures. Schedules non-emergency absences in advance; observes start/stop times, breaks, and meal times; works efficiently and effectively alone and with others, is available for overtime and emergency responses.
Properly completes work in accordance with issued work order from supervisor.
Maintains a safe working area and maintains safe work practices. Uses personal protective equipment. Maintains awareness of work area, helping others to avoid risks and hazards. Properly reports personal injuries and equipment accidents immediately to supervisor.

This individual may be required to operate CDL and non-CDL trucks and equipment that are pertinent to snow removal and all other general maintenance work activities as required. This employee must comply with all Federal CDL regulations to ensure the safety of others.

Implements the environmental protection requirements of maintenance work activities performed by the employee. Also fulfills the environmental management requirements designated for this title in environmental training programs.

Recognizing that everyone is involved in the District’s and County’s actions to demonstrate sound environmental practices, employee fulfills the Maintenance Unit Business Plan objectives related to the Strategic Environmental Management Program (SEMP). Also, supports the efforts of managers, supervisors, and other employees to meet these objectives.

Performs other duties as assigned.

5. Evaluate the contractor’s operations: Immediately stop any unsafe actions. Engage in an ongoing safety dialogue with the contractor’s leadership.

6. Promote a CULTURE that emphasizes SAFETY as a core value: Immediately stop any unsafe actions. Incorporate safety into all discussions, deliberations, and decisions. Continuously communicate the safety direction. Inspire employees to be a MODEL for safety. Encourage and support safety initiatives and programs by participating and involving your staff. Recognize safety daily. Acknowledge EXTRAORDINARY achievements. Learn and improve through After-Action Reviews (AARs). Enforce accountability.


Succession Planning:
Take an active role in succession planning by completing a Career Development Plan in collaboration with the supervisor. In conjunction with the supervisor, participate in knowledge management/transfer by identifying key aspects of the job and sharing explicit and tacit program/technical knowledge with other employees.


Department Green Plan Policy:
Commit to following the Department’s Green Plan Policy (Pub 712) and the associated principles. Failure to comply with Department Green Plan Policy shall be documented in employee’s performance review.


Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA):
Unless directed otherwise by your supervisor or manager, comply with stated work hours for the 7.5/8.0 hour day.
