Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This position performs routine custodial duties for Montgomery County.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Under the direction of the Equipment and Mechanical Supervisor, performs a variety of tasks of a routine nature in connection with cleaning functions.

Utilizes custodial supplies and modern cleaning equipment.

Washes, waxes, dusts and polishes floors, furniture and fixtures.

Cleans and sanitizes all restrooms, restocking supplies such as soap, paper towels, toilet paper, trash bags, chemical cleaners also, keep clean the inside and outside and around building when and where needed.

Performs general cleaning include mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing, waxing, polishing, dusting, sweeping, buffing of walls, baseboards, floors, handrails, windows, mirrors, window sills, smoking areas, air vents, venetian blinds, light fixtures, file cabinets.

Empties waste containers and dispose into trash dumpsters. Dispose of recyclable materials into recycle dumpsters.

Pick up and/or deliver supplies.

Move furniture and equipment as required for cleaning rooms.

Replaces light bulbs

Shovels snow and may operate snow blowers and other related snow removal equipment. Clear and clean debris from sidewalks and facility perimeter. Use and mix chemicals from label instructions. Use M.S.D.S. instructions to ensure proper procedures in case of spills.

Performs other related duties as required.

5. Evaluate contractor operations:
-Immediately stop unsafe actions
-Engage in ongoing safety dialogue with the contractor’s leadership

6. Promote a CULTURE that emphasizes SAFETY as a core value:
-Immediately stop any unsafe actions.
-Incorporate safety into all discussions, deliberations, and decisions.
-Continuously communicate the safety direction.
-Inspire employees to be a MODEL for safety.
-Encourage and support safety initiatives and programs by participating and involving staff.
-Recognize safety daily.
-Acknowledge EXTRAORDINARY achievements.
-Learn and improve through After-Action Reviews (AAR’s)
-Enforce accountability.

Succession Planning: (Employees)

Take an active role in succession planning by completing a Career Development Plan in collaboration with the supervisor. In conjunction with the supervisor, participate in knowledge management/transfer by identifying key aspects of the job and sharing explicit and tacit program/technical knowledge with other employees.

Department Green Plan Policy:
As part of PennDOT’s MS4 obligations including NPDES Permit compliance and stockpile good housekeeping, all Construction Inspection Employee, Manager & Supervisor and Maintenance Employee, Manager & Supervisor PD’s must include the following statement:

Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) (Employees):

Unless directed otherwise by your supervisor or manager, comply with stated work hours for the 7.50/8.0-hour day.

Essential Functions

 1. Operate janitorial equipment. Assess needs to maintain a clean facility..Must be able at times to work extended hours under adverse conditions
 2. Read, write, speak, and comprehend clearly
 3. Observe and react to hazard warning devices, signs, etc at times.
 4. Perform work in varied/adverse weather conditions such as extreme heat or cold, rain, snow, and ice.
 5. Sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, reach, crawl, twist and climb.
 6. Lift and carry or move up to 50 pounds.
 7. Withstand periods of prolonged standing, stooping, or bending.
 8. Withstand exposures to toxins and chemicals within MSDS Sheet limits.
 9. Wear and maintain personal protective gear. Follow all safety policies and procedures
 10. Work assigned hours. Varied/additional hours at times.
