Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This position provides professional veterinary expertise in thoroughbred and/or standardbred racetrack regulatory medicine and supervises all test barn activities.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Supervises test barn activities, including the collection and processing of blood and urine samples and all related record keeping.

Responsible for drawing blood samples and supervising all other test barn personnel.

Supervises pre-race activities including blood gas testing and observes horse to determine if they are fit to race.

Supervises and maintains chain of custody for horses and samples.

Applies PA Racing Commission rules of racing, policies and procedures consistently, in order to preserve the integrity of racing and safeguard the horses.

Determines if horses are physically fit and capable of safely racing.

Decides if injured horses need to be on the Vet's list and qualify before racing again.
