Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 1. Support prevention strategies to reduce injuries and accidents by working safely and adhering to all department safety rules and regulations. Will be measured by the number of violations. 2. Provide a clean and neat work environment to improve visual perception for PennDOT’s customers and to provide a safe and properly maintained environment for PennDOT’s employees by performing general custodial work. 3. Perform custodial functions including washing and waxing floors, furniture and fixtures, clean lavatories and replenish supplies. Operate necessary equipment including vacuum cleaners, waxers, mops and other hand and power tools in a way that ensures a safe work area free of obstacles, which promotes an accident-free workplace for all employees. 4. Interpret detailed instructions for materials and practices to perform cleaning tasks in accordance with standard practices of the trade. Utilize independent judgment to provide a high level of service for PennDOT’s employees and customers. 5. Find ways to deliver exceptional service through face-to-face meetings with customers, active participation in teams, creative use or development of necessary tools or through ideas submitted to the Suggestion Connection. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Assure office and garage floors are swept on a daily basis and clean restrooms. Clean desktops and cabinets as needed. Check and pick up litter on grounds and in buildings. Mop all offices and restrooms every other day. May be required daily in the winter. Clean all windows monthly. Assure all other miscellaneous jobs such as lights, ceilings and walls are cleaned approximately every four to six months. Clean all County Garage and Management staffs’ automobiles within County approximately once a week. Employee must be capable of wearing appropriate protective gear such as hard hats, protective shoes, aprons, gloves, masks and eye wear. Employee may be expected to travel to various work sites, facilities and attend field activities within the District and throughout the state. Employee may be required to work overtime on occasion. Performs other related duties as required. Safety 1. Assess your environment and be responsible for your safety, the safety of co-workers, and the public. 2. Attend required safety training and adhere to the requirements of all safety manuals, policies, and laws. 3. Immediately report to your supervisor any incident, unsafe practice, or near miss. 4. When in an enclosed environment (office buildings, flagger stations, equipment pinch points, etc.), know your evacuation process and escape route, your communication protocols, and appropriately react in the event of an incident. 5. Evaluate contractor operations: • Immediately stop unsafe actions. • Engage in ongoing safety dialogue with the contractor’s leadership. 6. Promote a CULTURE that emphasizes SAFETY as a core value: • Immediately stop any unsafe actions. • Incorporate safety into all discussions, deliberations, and decisions. • Continuously communicate the safety direction. • Inspire employees to be a MODEL for safety. • Encourage and support safety initiatives and programs by participating and involving staff. • Recognize safety daily. • Acknowledge EXTRAORDINARY achievements. • Learn and improve through After-Action Reviews (AAR’s) • Enforce accountability. Succession Planning: Take an active role in succession planning by completing a Career Development Plan in collaboration with the supervisor. In conjunction with the supervisor, participate in knowledge management/transfer by identifying key aspects of the job and sharing explicit and tacit program/technical knowledge with other employees. Department Green Plan Policy: Commit to following the Departments Green Plan Policy (Pub 712) and the associated principals. Failure to comply with Department Green Plan Policy shall be documented in employee’s performance review. Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA): Unless directed otherwise by your supervisor or manager, comply with stated hours for the 7.5/8.0-hour day. |
