Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Understands and promotes the Bureau’s agenda with regard to providing excellence in service equal to the best in the business, including but not limited to Safety Administrations Customer Service Policy.

Demonstrates a basic knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations, which impact the Driver License Program.

Examiners must be capable of performing all driver examination functions, including but not limited to exams and counter processing, with no more than two exceptions per rating period that require supervisor intervention.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Conducts standardized examinations to evaluate the skill and competence of Commercial and Non-Commercial Driver License applicants safely and courteously.

Determines the physical and driving qualifications of applicants, and the mechanical conditions of vehicles for conformance to the established standards necessary for safe driving.

Tests applicants for a knowledge and understanding of the motor vehicle code and traffic signs, and evaluates the applicant's ability in practical demonstration of motor vehicle operation and observance of the rules of the road.

Processes test results and applicants. Administers the Commercial Driver License (CDL) knowledge examination, pre-trip, and driving tests. Examines applications, registrations, and permits for possible irregularities and fraud. Checks motor vehicles for inspection stickers, lights, windshield wipers, and other mechanical features. Administers telebinocular, color perception, and other tests of vision.

Audits Third Party Examiners for contract compliance by either having the Third Party Examiners administer a CDL skills test to the Department Examiner in a representative vehicle or score along with the Third Party Examiner while administering a CDL Skills test to an applicant. Audit Third Party CDL test sites for contract compliance by checking files and certifies completing an audit report.

Audits Driver Education teachers for compliance with end of course skills testing requirements by either having the Driver Education teacher administer a skills test to the Department Examiner in a representative vehicle or score along with the Driver Education teacher while administering a Skills test to an applicant.

Strictly adheres to all aspects of Safety Administration’s customer service policy.

Performs other related duties as required.All Department Employees:

2. Attend required safety training and adhere to the requirements of all safety manuals, policies, and laws.
3. Immediately report to your supervisor any incident, unsafe practice, or near miss.
4. When in an enclosed environment (office buildings, confined spaces, flagger stations, equipment pinch points, etc.), know your evacuation process and escape route, your communication protocols, and appropriately react in the event of an incident.

Responsible for ensuring that the correct fee waiver code is used and properly documented whenever a fee waiver is necessary to process a customer transaction. Complies with all aspects of the Fee Waiver Guidelines.

Driver License Examiners test non-CDL and CDL customers and make a decision as set forth in procedures whether the customer passes or fails.
