Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This is a supervisory and technical position involving the direction, operations, maintenance and repair of a central utility plant which generates steam, hot water and chilled water or electrical supplies to SCI Coal Township.

Description of Duties:

60% Supervises and gives direction to the utility plant employees assigned to the utility plant to make a safe and efficient work site. This supervisor assigns utility plant employees to make site visits daily to their areas and ensure that the employees are documenting filter changes, recording and passing on problem to the facility maintenance managers or fixing problems that are utility plant related. Ensure that all utility plant employees are meeting the required annual training hours. Complete employee performance reviews on time.

20% Responsible for ensuring that the utility plant operators are documenting information pertaining to the boilers, chillers, cooling towers, natural gas, heating fuel, water, sewage, and electric. This supervisor is to document that information in reports to the facility maintenance managers and business manager or designee when required in a timely manner.

10% Responsible for entering purchase requests to maintain a safe and effective amount of supplies to run the utility plant on a normal basis and to have enough supplies for an emergency situation when it comes to distribution of chilled and hot water. This supervisor is responsible for the ordering of chemical and safe storage of the chemicals needed for the boilers, water softeners, chillers and cooling towers.

10% Performs other related duties as assigned.

7. Maintain regular and reliable attendance
8. Work all shifts as required by operational necessities and emergencies
9. Work mandatory overtime in compliance with overtime provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, with little or no advance notice, whether on or off duty at the time of notification
10. Use and maintain various equipment and tolls used in the maintenance, operation, and repair of a boiler plant
11. Properly wear all portions of assigned uniform
12. Establish and maintain effective working relationships
13. Visually observe inmates’ activities
14. Be mobile over all types of physical surfaces and levels
15. Hear and identify sounds (voices, whistle, buzzer, lock release, scuffling, sudden quiet)
16. Attend and participate in all mandatory training and/or testing
17. Travel as required
