Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Provides wildlife management supervision and expertise at the regional and field levels. Supervises and facilitates administration and implementation of Bureau of Wildlife Management programs at the regional level and provides direct technical assistance to private landowners, public land managers, the region director, and regional and bureau staff. Coordinate, supervises, participates in, and facilitate animal tagging and banding programs as well as wildlife population surveys conducted by regional field biologists and other staff. Assists in facilitation of wildlife trapping and relocation efforts had to do with damage and nuisance situations, including assisting with purchase, distribution and maintenance of nuisance wildlife control equipment and apparatus. Assist in coordinating and supervising the monitoring and evaluation of habitat status and the wildlife population response to habitat enhancement and management activities. Supervises regional field biologists in providing technical assistance to public and private landowners and managers in wildlife management planning. Assists in delivery of technical assistance concerning environmental assessments of various projects on public lands; supervises regional wildlife health program activities including monitoring, testing, education, and training. Assists in administration, security and distribution of Schedule II and III drugs for wildlife immobilization, Coordinates bear check station data collection using assigned protocols; represents the region at meetings and/or on committees related to wildlife/habitat management and conservation. Performs employee performance reviews, approves leave and work schedules for subordinate employees. Serves as liaison between the Bureau of Wildlife Management and the assigned region and administers regional wildlife management programs. Writes comprehensive game lands management plans in concert with regional forestry and land management staff. Assists regional forestry and land management staff by providing technical guidance on habitat enhancement techniques; provides technical assistance with GIS and GPS technology. Assists with implementation of federally funded habitat enhancement programs; and initiates and coordinates wildlife research projects in coordination with BWM staff and established SOPs; and performs other related duties as assigned by the region director. Essential Functions: Develop strategic and operational plans for a regional wildlife program, which involves establishing priorities, parameters and time frames to implement, monitor and evaluate various projects to ensure compliance with organizational goals and objectives. Evaluate the effectiveness of ongoing projects through analysis of reports, discussions with staff and on-site review. Resolve problems that occur in project/administration activities by deciding the best course of action to be taken to ensure continuing operations. Direct, supervise, and assist subordinate biologists, and other employees in personnel, Commissioners, other government officials and other professionals. Direct recruitment, selection, training and employee discipline. Prepare and manage a regional wildlife management budget. Prepare clear, concise and well organized reports and correspondence. Use computers, the Internet and WORD, EXCEL, ACCESS, POWERPOINT, statistical and GIS software. Travel within and out-of-state, including overnight stays. Communicate effectively orally and in writing. Perform public speaking engagements and to appear on radio and television. Traverse varied and rugged terrain and work under inclement weather conditions. Decision Making: This position makes decisions as a member of a regional supervisory team. Regional Wildlife Management Supervisors are responsible for developing and monitoring an assigned budget, including the use and monitoring of overtime for themselves and subordinates. Implements Wildlife Management Program based on needs and conditions within established protocol (Ex.: timing of fieldwork, equipment, and personnel needed). If decisions require change to established protocol questions are referred to Region Director for approval. Assigns work to subordinate biologists based on their job duties and workload. Refers and recommends assignment of other regional personnel to Regional Director. Answer most customer inquiries directly without review by supervisor. |
