Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. CUSTOMER FOCUS Provide Department mechanics with the skills they need to maintain the Department’s equipment fleet by delivering Quality Mobile Mechanic Training, New Mechanic Training and other training sessions as necessary. SAFETY Instruct students on the proper and safe methods of working on and around Department equipment by including safety as an integral part of every training class. CUSTOMER FOCUS Using field input and other sources, identify training subjects, gather information, develop lesson plans and deliver training to the field that addresses their needs. RELATIONSHIP BUILDING Maintain a professional Student – Teacher relationship in an atmosphere conducive to learning by being encouraging and displaying a positive attitude. Conduct New Mechanic Training for newly hired Department Mechanics. Attend vendor and OEM training sessions and develop training programs for the Department using the knowledge gained at these sessions. Design and construct training aides, cutaways, demonstration units, etc. for the use in mechanic training courses. Curriculums, handouts, videos (review, update, develop). Develop curriculums, lesson plans, course outlines and other training materials and information using a personal computer and various software programs. Conduct Mobile Mechanic Training in districts and counties statewide. Overnight travel is required as necessary. Support Counties with mechanical repairs when as needed. This position requires a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and is therefore subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations. Position also requires an EPA 609 certification and become an instructor for the refrigerant training and certification class held during New Mechanic Training. Must obtain this ability during the probation period Under the direct supervision of an Instructor Supervisor, the incumbent instructs trainees in the standard practices, methods, and procedures for the maintenance of Department equipment. Plans and assigns simulated work assignments to trainees. Directs the work of part time instructors. Incumbent will be assigned to a structured office setting. Occasionally required to attend seminar-like settings for various training sessions. Performs other related duties as required. Safety: 1. Assess your environment and be responsible for your safety, the safety of co-workers, and the public. 2. Attend required safety training and adhere to the requirements of all safety manuals, policies, and laws. 3. Immediately report to your supervisor any incident, unsafe practice, or near miss. 4. When in an enclosed environment (office buildings, confined spaces, flagger stations, equipment pinch points, etc.), know your evacuation process and escape route, your communication protocols, and appropriately react in the event of an incident. 5. Evaluate the contractor’s operations: • Immediately stop unsafe actions • Engage in ongoing safety dialogue with the contractor’s leadership 6. Promote a CULTURE that emphasizes SAFETY as a core value: • Immediately stop any unsafe actions. • Incorporate safety into all discussions, deliberations, and decisions. • Continuously communicate the safety direction. • Inspire employees to be a MODEL for safety. • Encourage and support safety initiatives and programs by participating and involving your staff. • Recognize safety daily. • Acknowledge EXTRAORDINARY achievements. • Learn and improve through After Action Reviews (AAR¡¦s) • Enforce accountability. Succession Planning: Employees Take an active role in succession planning by completing a Career Development Plan in collaboration with the supervisor. In conjunction with the supervisor, participate in knowledge management/transfer by identifying key aspects of the job and sharing explicit and tacit program/technical knowledge with other employees. Department Green Plan Policy: Additionally, as part of PennDOTs MS4 obligations, all Maintenance PDs must include the following statement: Commit to following the Departments Green Plan Policy (Pub 712) and the associated principals. Failure to comply with Department Green Plan Policy shall be documented in employee’s performance review. Fair Labor Standards Act: Unless directed otherwise, only arrive within a reasonable time period before the start of shift so there are no issues concerning when work has officially begun. |

Documents attendance for each class held and submits to supervisor for LSO entry. Upon completion of training classes requests all attendee's complete a training evaluation to receive feedback on the training performed. Submits all responses to the Supervisor and Manager for review. |
