Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. 20% Ensures all weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports are completed, reports prepared and submitted timely. This includes Departmental Weekly Fire and Safety inspections, Monthly Fire and Safety inspections, Quarterly Fire and Safety inspection, Quarterly inspection of Institutional Fire Equipment and participate in an annual inspection with the Central Office Department of Corrections Safety & Environment Chief/ Assistant Chief. 20% Conducts quarterly fire drills and submit an annual fire drill schedule to the Deputy Superintendent for Facilities Management for approval. Maintains records to satisfy Accreditation and Inspection requirements. 15% Coordinates and insures there is a comprehensive and ongoing program for maintaining proper sanitation, housekeeping, and vermin/pest control throughout the institution. 10% Develops, oversees, and implements the Right-To-Know program. This includes maintaining MSDS, product inventory system updating annually, weekly, and monthly inspections to include proper labeling, making SARA Notifications. 10% Maintains water distribution log of the institution, plot plans, hydrant locations and flow, main, feeder, primary/secondary sources. Assure all sprinkler systems and fire hydrants are tested Per NFPA Code. 5% Investigates accidents and review accident reports in regard to all employee work loss accidents/injuries and submit recommendations for the prevention of any future occurrences. Review the fire protection system and develop and update fire plans for each department of the institution with input from Department of Corrections Safety & Environmental Chief. 5% Conducts and coordinates all employee and inmate training in essentials of safety, sanitation, fire prevention, and environmental training programs (i.e., respiratory devices, pre-acceptance screening of their medical condition, Respirator Qualitative Fitness Testing, confined entry, immediate danger to life and health entry (IDLH). Conducts refresher courses as required and maintains records. 5% Instructs, oversees, and trains the Fire Emergency Response Team (FERT) and Correctional Emergency Response Team in the use of self-contained breathing apparatus and search and rescue methods. Conducts training as required to maintain FERT member certifications. Includes maintaining the Aeromedical zone. 5% Functions as the Institutional Recycling Coordinator and oversees Asbestos Abatement and Hazardous Materials Control Programs. Attends related training and re-certification courses. Investigate all institution fires, no matter how small, to determine: cause, effects on materials/equipment, assessment of damage, if proper procedures were followed, and if preventive measures could have been taken. In addition, complete the Department of Corrections fire report form to be sent to Deputy Superintendent for Facilities Management, with a copy to Chief of Security/Fire Safety. 5% Chairs and conducts monthly Safety Meetings and performs related work as assigned.
