This position serves as the Institutional Training Coordinator for SCI Greene and is responsible for planning, administering, and evaluating the facility’s training program. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. 30% Coordinates all in-service and out-service training for staff located at SCI Greene. Ensures that adequate space, materials, and facilitators are available to meet training needs. Procures all necessary training aids and equipment, and requests service/repair for equipment as needed. Schedules training for employees based upon position, training history, and applicable policies. Coordinates all administrative details for staff registering and attending Training Academy courses, including Basic Training. Evaluates all requests for centralized, out-service, and on-the-job training. Approves or denies requests based upon need and appropriateness then routes them to the Superintendent and Business Office for approval. 15% Maintains training records and data for all staff and generates various training reports to adequately administer and monitor the program. Monitors training hours for individual employees to ensure that all mandatory training requirements and ACA standards are met. Works with the SCI ACA Coordinator to develop corrective action plans for any training-related deficiencies found during audits. 10% Coordinates and conducts employee orientations (pre-service training) for all new full-time, part-time, transfer, and contract employee. Issues ID cards, provides tours of the facility, and addresses any questions or concerns from new staff. Facilitates other in-service trainings as needed. 10% Evaluates training feedback for in-service and out-service training to determine effectiveness and assesses facility training needs. Develops annual training plans to ensure adequate availability and scheduling of employee training. Recommends new and/or innovative sources of training as needed. May draft re-fresher or facility specific lesson plans for review and approval by staff at the Training Academy as needed. 10% Leads Institution Training Committee meetings on a quarterly basis to address training-related issues and concerns. Advises SCI leadership of training needs, facility resources, and training procedures/policies. 10% Maintains an adequate pool of certified instructors to ensure local compliance with policy. Monitors instructor certification and licensure, and coordinates instructor trainings as necessary. Monitors institutional instructors periodically and provides constructive feedback to improve quality of instructors’ delivery. 5% Serves as a Veterans Administration Certifying Official for the VA’s On-The-Job (OJT) Program. Obtains, certifies, and reports all monthly hours worked to the VA for the OJT program participants. 5% Acts as a liaison with Human Resources to provide training documentation and recommend training based on employee performance issues. 5% Performs other related duties as assigned. Decision Making: Describe the types of decisions made by the incumbent of this position and the types of decisions referred to others. Example: In response to a customer inquiry, this work involves researching the status of an activity and preparing a formal response for the supervisor’s signature. This position independently plans, implements, and tracks all aspects of the facility’s training program and assumes accountability for overall program effectiveness. This position determines program priorities in accordance with broad objectives conveyed by the Superintendent. This position independently determines employee training needs as well as facility needs with regard to training materials/supplies, training accommodations, and instructor certifications/licensure. This position also maintains decision making authority for the initial approval or denial of training requests. Annual training plans are reviewed by the Superintendent to ensure adherence with program objectives. Any unusual issues or high visibility concerns are resolved with considerable independence, and input from the Superintendent or subject matter experts may be sought out if deemed necessary. |
