Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Under the direct supervision of a Highway Foreman the incumbent will perform a variety of sub-journey level trades duties in the planning, estimating, ordering materials, constructing and finishing of a variety of buildings, drainage structures, or accessory structures using lumber, piping, concrete, or structural steel. Routinely assists in the drawing of rough plans, estimating quantities of construction materials, selecting proper tools and equipment for assigned projects. Performs light construction (i.e. rough framing, drywall, painting, finish framing, shelving, and cabinetry, etc.), plumbing, electrical, lighting, masonry, heating/ventilation/air conditioning systems and repair of office furniture/hardware. Assists higher-level tradesman and/or foreman in journey level trades duties including the planning, estimating, ordering materials, constructing and finishing of a variety of buildings, drainage structures, or accessory structures using lumber, piping, concrete, or structural steel. Performs a variety of manual laboring duties using both motorized and non-motorized hand tools such as shovels, rakes, hammers, lutes chain saws, compressors, jack hammers, tampers, hand mowers and trimmers. Selects and uses tools properly for job to minimize wear and breakage; and reports missing or broken equipment Performs all necessary field adjustments to permit safe operation and minimize wear. Performs minor repairs and preventative maintenance work on equipment which includes cleaning and servicing equipment. Demonstrates operation of assigned equipment to other employees. Operates a variety of manual and foot controls, utilizes seat belts and installs and removes tire chains on dual wheels. Learns to maintain a safe work environment for self, co-workers and the motoring public by following proper safety procedures and using proper protective equipment. Maintains awareness of work area by helping self and others avoid risks and hazards. Properly reports all personal injuries and equipment accidents immediately to include near-misses and gets proper treatment to minimize risk of further injury. Makes visual observations, manual adjustments, and reports findings in both written and oral format. Implements the environmental protection requirements of maintenance work activities performed by the employee. Also fulfills the environmental management requirements designated for this title in environmental training programs. Attends environmental training designated for this position in the District’s SEMP Manual for Sound Environmental Practices. Performs other related duties as required. Safety: 1. Assess your environment and be responsible for your safety, the safety of co-workers, and the public. 2. Attend required safety training and adhere to the requirements of all safety manuals, policies, and laws. 3. Immediately report to your supervisor any incident, unsafe practice, or near miss. 4. When in an enclosed environment (office buildings, confined spaces, flagger stations, equipment pinch points, etc.), know your evacuation process and escape route, your communication protocols, and appropriately react in the event of an incident. Succession Planning: Take an active role in succession planning by completing a Career Development Plan in collaboration with the supervisor. In conjunction with the supervisor, participate in knowledge management/transfer by identifying key aspects of the job and sharing explicit and tacit program/technical knowledge with other employees. Department Green Plan Policy: Commit to following the Department’s Green Plan Policy (Pub 712) and the associated principles. Failure to comply with the Department’s Green Plan Policy shall be documented in the employee’s performance review. Fair Labor Standards Act: Unless directed otherwise by your supervisor or manager, comply with stated work hours for the 7.5/8.0-hour day. |
