Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Ensures that all construction work is completed in conformance with approved construction codes, plans, standards and specifications. Assists checking grades, elevations, structure stake-out and roadway stake-out with contractor/surveyor. Inspects the placement of materials such as cement concrete, bituminous concrete, drainage materials, bridge materials and all materials applicable to transportation construction. Record personal and contractor work in Field Inspector's Diaries, Item Quantity Books, and Ketch/Computation Books. Documents and checks work performed by contractors and participates as a team member. Proficiently utilizes department supplied Ipad and applications and also computer and software in completing project documentation and performs direct entry of daily documentation into the Electronic Construction Management System. Produces reports as needed and/or required for project records and interprets the results to track progress and schedule (CPM). Tracks and checks material quantities and testing utilizing either manual or computerized methods. Performs mathematical calculations to determine consistency of materials being used, draw sketches, note field plan changes, and maintain consolidated construction inspection progress and quality control reports associated with the work being accomplished. Check work zone traffic control signs and devices to ensure that they are placed and maintained in accordance with the Work Zone Traffic Control Plan and Publication 213. Analyze the contract plans, specifications, and contract special provisions and explain the contract requirements to contractor personnel and other making inquiry. Inform Department supervisory or management personnel of issues with contractor personnel and others of decisions taken to resolve an issue or request assistance from Department supervisory or management personnel to resolve on issue. Review construction project safety practices and advise contractor supervisory/management personnel of any corrective actions needed. Assist or complete the periodic progress payments as directed. Collect Materials Delivery Forms and Certifications for materials to be incorporated into projects. Provides compaction testing (visual non-movement method) of sub-surface strata, soils, aggregate, etc. during construction. Executes daily responsibilities to ensure that transportation projects are completed in accordance with all existing regulations, policies and procedures and in an expeditious and cost effective manner. Review and monitor construction documentation and construction estimates for compliance with current policies and procedures. Conduct construction documentation, interim, and final audits. Take an active role in succession planning by completing a Career Development Plan in collaboration with the supervisor. In conjunction with the supervisor, participate in knowledge management/transfer by identifying key aspects of the job and sharing explicit and tacit program/technical knowledge with other employees. Unless directed otherwise by your supervisor or manager, comply with stated work hours for the 7.5/8.0 hour day. Commit to following the Departments Green Plan Policy (Pub 712) and the associated principals. Failure to comply with Department Green Plan Policy shall be documented in employee’s performance review. Performs other duties as assigned. 1. Evaluate the contractor’s operations: Immediately stop any unsafe actions. Engage in an ongoing safety dialogue with the contractor’s leadership. 6. Promote a CULTURE that emphasizes SAFETY as a core value: Immediately stop any unsafe actions. Incorporate safety into all discussions, deliberations, and decisions. Continuously communicate the safety direction. Inspire employees to be a MODEL for safety. Encourage and support safety initiatives and programs by participating and involving your staff. Recognize safety daily. Acknowledge EXTRAORDINARY achievements. Learn and improve through After Action Reviews (AARs). Enforce accountability. |
