Position Purpose:

Delivers high quality highway services, cooperating as a maintenance team member to suggest and use improved methods and technologies, providing courteous customer services, improving communications and promoting a safer working environment in the following manner.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Performs work in a typical garage and office environment. Assists skilled tradesman in repair and preventative maintenance on a fleet of construction equipment and hand tools;

Performs minor repairs and preventative maintenance work independently such as replacing hoses, wires, light bulbs and lenses, filters. Records parts and time charges accurately and correct; and reports all equipment accidents and or damage immediately. Assists in minor repairs and maintenance to motorized hand equipment such as chain saws, compressors, jack hammers, tampers, hand mowers and trimmers, routers, and reports missing or broken equipment as it is noted.

Assists in procuring parts for equipment repairs and picks up same and assures that they are correct.

Participates in maintaining assigned work area in clean, safe condition using proper safety procedures and protective equipment; is aware of work area hazards and initiates pro-active accidents and injury avoidance measures; reports all personal injuries immediately and gets proper treatment to minimize risk of further injury.

This position most commonly performs work in a typical garage environment; the duties may involve outdoor work and physical activity. Frequent periods of heavy exertion may occur.

Take an active role in succession planning by completing. a Career Development Plan in collaboration with the supervisor. In conjunction with the supervisor, participate in knowledge management/transfer by identifying key aspects of the job and sharing explicit and tacit program/technical knowledge with other employees.

Recognizes that everyone is involved in the District's and County's actions to demonstrate sound environmental practices, each employee fulfills the maintenance unit business plan objectives related to the Strategic Environmental Management Program
(SEMP). Also supports the efforts of other employees to meet these objectives. Attends environmental training designated for this working title.

Safety:
1. Assess your environment and be responsible for your safety, the safety of co-workers, and the public.
2. Attend required safety training and adhere to the requirements of all safety manuals, policies, and laws.
3. Immediately report to your supervisor any incident, unsafe practice, or near miss.
4. When in an enclosed environment ( office buildings, confined spaces, flagger stations, equipment pinch points, etc.), know your evacuation process and escape route, your communication protocols, and appropriately react in the event of an incident.

Essential Functions

 1. To communicate both orally and in writing.
 2. Receiving and unloading deliveries which may require stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching and prolonged standing.

 5. Wear all types of protective gear such as hard hats, footgear, hearing and eye protection, gloves, vests and respirators.
