Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Plans, directs, and coordinates unit security and treatment programs. Develops the unit mission statement, operational goals, objectives, and procedures that are most effective and specialized to the needs of the unit. Develops, implements, and monitors a housekeeping plan to ensure a continuous state of cleanliness. Monitors unit security practices, procedures, and treatment services. Ensures compliance with DOC Administrative Directives, Institutional policies, and ACA standards. Establishes a communication network with and among unit staff, inmates, Department heads, administrative staff and others as deemed appropriate. Supervises a multi-disciplinary team of staff, and conducts the full range of supervisory duties. Plans and conducts staff problem solving meetings. Responds to concerns of staff and inmates. Develops pro-active methods of resolving conflicts between staff and inmates. Conducts tours, inspections and reviews of all assigned areas. Ensures positive and negative findings are brought to the attention of appropriate staff. Ensures maintenance work orders are entered in a timely manner. Develops budget requests (general appropriations and IGWF) which reflect specific needs of the unit for the upcoming fiscal year. Chairs staffings and ensures timely staffing of all inmates for custody level changes, outside clearance, parole, etc. Investigates inmate(s) grievances, which are referred to the Unit Manager by the Inmate Grievance Coordinator. Serves as the institution's Coordinator for PACT and Counseling Services. Escorts inspection teams as directed by the Major. Performs other related duties as assigned. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Exercise care, custody and control over inmates 2. Apply physical force and intervention when appropriate and necessary 3. Supervise and evaluate the work of subordinate staff 4. Be mobile over all types of physical surfaces and levels 5. Work overtime, with little or no advance notice, whether on or off duty at the time of notification 6. Maintain regular and reliable attendance 7. Operate basic office equipment 8. Establish and maintain effective working relationships 9. Effectively communicate verbally and in writing 10. Hear and identify sounds (voices, whistle, buzzer, lock release, scuffling, sudden quiet) 11. Visually observe inmates’ activities 12. Administer emergency medical assistance to inmates and staff 13. Attend and participate in all mandatory training and/or testing 14. Travel as required |
