Under the guidance and supervision of a higher-level professional, the incumbent initially performs work at the beginning level of professional casework and counseling services involving the care, treatment, and rehabilitation of substance-abusing/dependent inmates, patients, or residents. |

Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. 50% - Participates in the beginning level professional tasks in the care, treatment, and rehabilitation of drug and/or alcohol dependent persons in a Commonwealth facility. Works closely with inmates, patients, or residents in preparing individualized treatment and recovery plans. Provides supervised one on one treatment sessions, professional counseling to assigned inmates, patients, or residents; and makes appropriate referrals and performs other administrative duties. Facilitates group therapy as assigned by the DAT Supervisor/Manager and in accordance with regulations. Facilitates Community Meetings, Encounter Groups, and other Therapeutic Groups as assigned. Learns the process of utilizing progressive disciplinary measures to address inmate behavioral deficiencies. Provides drug and alcohol related group sessions to other specialized units as assigned by DAT Supervisor/Manager. Reviews waiting lists and forms groups as needed for all drug and alcohol treatment programs. 20% - Completes discharge summaries, classification summaries, and parole summaries for assigned inmates as applicable in accordance with regulations, policies and procedures. Maintains patient treatment records for assigned programs. Adheres to all Federal, State and Facility regulations, policies and procedures and those governing confidentiality (HIPPA). Ensures compliance with Act 126 legislation. Additionally, ensures compliance with 7.4.1 DOC Policy. 10% - Conducts assessments to any inmate deemed in need (i.e. parole violators, drug misconducts, State Intermediate Punishment Assessments/Re-Assessments) with DAT Supervisor guidance in order to make recommendations in accordance with 7.4.1 Section 4. 10% - Participates in all meetings with the DAT Supervisor/Manager, treatment team or multi-disciplinary unit team to include, but not limited to: Drug and Alcohol Treatment Specialists, Counselors, Psychology, Medical, Work, Education, contract or volunteer staff or any other group or person involved in an inmate’s care or custody. 5% - Attends mandatory training including but not limited to Crisis Intervention/Suicide Prevention, Safe Crisis Management, CPR/First Aid/AED, Cultural Differences/Diversity, Fire Safety, and Right to Know; certificate programs relating to general counseling, substance abuse, mental health and/or developmental disabilities, in order to develop and maintain position skills. 5% Performs other related duties as required ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Work overtime in compliance with provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement 9. Travel as required 10. Be mobile over all types of physical surfaces and levels 11. Visually observe inmates’ activities 12. Hear and identify sounds (voices, whistle, buzzer, lock release, scuffling, sudden quiet) |
