This position develops, implements, and coordinates social work and case management services to inmates for the Department of Corrections (DOC) State Correctional Institution (SCI) at SCI Camp Hill. |
Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. 30% Develops, implements, and coordinates social services programs with DOC staff and community organizations. Provides support, guidance, crisis management, and counseling services to inmates and their families. Motivates and assists inmates to develop and make use of their own potential for improving their social, economic, emotional, physical and mental health circumstances and situations. Assesses inmate psychosocial strengths, weaknesses, needs, and eligibility for services. Assists inmates in recognizing problems and exploring methods for adjusting, modifying and improving personal and social behavior. 20% Develops, maintains, and presents necessary records and reports for managing an inmate caseload. Fosters positive relationships between the institution, other departments, and community agencies by providing necessary information for effective case management and community reintegration. Confers with other staff about an inmate’s adjustment, including work supervisor, treatment staff and other Unit Team members. Communicates with families, outside agencies, and DOC employees concerning all aspects of the inmate’s incarceration. 20% Participates in parole planning and assists with reentry services and Community Corrections Center placement. Facilitates groups related to the process of reentry such as activities of daily living, parole violator and community adjustment. Provides services related to coordination of discharge and community admission/reentry planning. Assists with reentry and continuity of care services. Arranges continuity of care and reentry assessments. Assists with coordinating reentry related program reviews. Formulates community reentry plans and community service contracts. 10% Provides follow-up services to community-placed inmates to validate continuity of care. 10% Interprets and applies federal, state, departmental and facility social work legislation, regulations, policies and procedures in the course of day-to-day work processes. 5% Investigates complaints or allegations of human rights violations and verifies or clarifies necessary information with appropriate resources. 5% Performs other related duties as required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Exercise therapeutic care, custody, and control over inmates 2. Effectively communicate verbally and in writing 3. Review, analyze, and interpret information 4. Operate basic office equipment 5. Maintain regular and reliable attendance 6. Establish and maintain effective working relationships 7. Attend and participate in all mandatory training and/or testing 8. Work overtime in compliance with provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement 9. Travel as required 10. Visually observe inmates’ activities 11. Be mobile over all types of physical surfaces and levels 12. Hear and identify sounds (voices, whistle, buzzer, lock release, scuffling, sudden quiet) |

Work is assigned and reviewed by the supervisor through regular meetings to ensure timeliness and accuracy. This position may seek guidance from members of various teams including Psychiatry, Psychology, and the assigned Unit Team. |
