Position Purpose:

This position is technical information (IT) work providing a variety of IT support functions.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Troubleshoot automation problems; Receive calls for technical assistance, elicit information, and perform equipment and, software and network (inter-connectivity) diagnostic procedures, utilize diagnostic software as necessary and evaluate defective equipment to identify faulty parts or components, research possible solutions, and make recommendation to the Business Manager where appropriate, contact technical staff for support or contact equipment/maintenance contract vendors and arranging for equipment maintenance, track service calls to vendors to ensure work is completed satisfactorily, where appropriate, remove defective parts and install replacement parts, test repaired equipment to verify proper and consistent operation, restore data to file servers and workstations, maintain problem log and document findings/resolutions.

Perform systems administration; Maintain expertise in desktop operating systems, configure computer systems to meet Department of Corrections (DOC) and Office of the Administration (OA) specifications, administer the network, add/change/delete user accounts and network resources (shared printers, file servers, etc.), maintain logs of the network configuration, maintain and/or instruct users on the back-up procedures for desktop computers and servers, transfer user files/programs as necessary, conduct systems audits by ensuring that equipment is properly configured, systems administrator password(s) have not been compromised and only approved and licensed software is installed on each machine, review and submit forms for user Ids.

Install and maintain computer and network related equipment and software; determine equipment, software and network requirements, examine installation area for appropriate equipment environment, arrange for the installation of appropriate telecommunications cabling systems, upgrade/install equipment and software, prepare equipment for installation, unpack equipment and inspect packages for completeness, install network cards, computer memory, and other internal computer components, set appropriate hardware configuration switches, jumpers, and other settings, install and configure appropriate software packages including in-house developed applications, deliver and install completed systems, test operation of fully configured units in a network environment, perform preventative maintenance, inventory computer and network related equipment and software, ensure computer inventory system is updated to reflect new equipment and equipment location changes. Conduct an annual facility wide inventory of all DOC maintained equipment and software, arrange for the return/destruction of obsolete, unneeded or nonfunctional computer equipment and software, prepare computers by erasing and reformatting or physically destroying disk drives to ensure no data can be recovered from them, return unneeded software that was centrally procured to the MIS Bureau, prepare forms to request authorization to destroy unneeded software which was procured by the facility, destroy and certify the destruction of software for which authorization to destroy has been received, retain permanent records of all disposed computer equipment and software.

Provide technical assistance to users; Provide user support and answer technical questions regarding computer equipment, packaged and in-house software, and the telecommunications network, conduct staff training in the use of computer equipment and applications developed in-house, read technical manuals/publications.

Perform liaison duties; complete administrative tasks and paperwork under the direction of Business Manager, attend DOC and non-DOC training programs, provide all necessary tech support needs to satellite offices of CCC and Parole.

Perform limited staff assignments in the ordering of related equipment and supplies; prepare and track orders, receive new equipment/supplies from vendors and verify items shipped are technically correct and consistent with items ordered, store the equipment/supplies, submit computer inventory forms/ensure items received are appropriately tagged and inventoried.

Perform related duties and special assignments as needed; Beta Test various software systems in conjunction w/BIT, Research/Configure/Install/support Systems in conjunction with ETI's, related to camera/security systems, research/configure/install/support systems related to in-house systems, access databases.
