Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. This position oversees the development and maintenance of inmate medical records for the Department of Corrections (DOC) State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Greene. This position also participates in the duties of subordinate staff consistent with operational and/or organizational requirements. |
Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. 25% Performs the full range of supervisory duties over subordinate staff. Manages and reviews work assignments to ensure timely and accurate completion. Establishes work plans and goals for the work unit. Provides training and support. 20% Organizes, maintains, and monitors the integrated health record system for inmates. Codes diseases and operations as well as special therapies, program services, and treatments with the diagnostic related group assignment. Ensures that medical reports and documented entries are in accordance with documentation practices and DOC policies as well as federal, state, or accreditation standards applicable to health care. 20% Files, withdraws, and issues health care records in accordance with all applicable policies, regulations, and guidelines on confidentiality as well as the legal statutes. Prepares and transfers records for inmates paroling or being transferred from the institution. Presents medical records in court cases involving subpoena of medical records. Notifies Health Care staff of the discharge status of inmate to other facilities and/or parole. 10% Reviews medical records and reports for completeness and accuracy, referring inadequate or incomplete health care records to physicians, dentist, and/or nursing staff for corrections. Provides documentation to the Corrections Health Care Administrator for patterns of inadequate or incomplete health records and the staff responsible. 10% Prepares periodic statistical reports on such subjects as morbidity, mortality, utilization of services and the statistics. Prepares records for management reviews. 10% Serves as a member of the Medical department Quality Assurance Committee. Regularly evaluates medical records maintenance methods to identify potential improvements. 5% Other related duties as assigned. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Hear and identify sounds (voices, whistle, buzzer, lock release, scuffling, sudden quiet) 9. Maintain regular and reliable attendance 10. Maintain RHIT or RHIA Certification issued by AHIMA 11. Attend and participate in all mandatory training and/or testing 12. Work overtime in compliance with provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement 13. Travel as required |
