Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Provides support for environmental education in Pennsylvania by delivering programs for students. Programs may occur in parks, environmental centers, regional offices or regions, Conservation Districts, or public/private schools. Assists, coordinates, implements and delivers professional development and teacher enrichment workshops. Collaborates with the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE), the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) in these duties. Coordinates development of teacher in-service programs and related workshops on a regional or statewide basis to support DEP initiatives. Provides administrative support and coordination for environmental education grant recipients. May require utilizing technology for training and support, such as webinars, website development and use of social media. Assist in updating and upgrading DEP’s environmental education-related website content. Promote the DEP Falcon Program. Maintain Falcon Cam, assist with workshops and programs through web presence and social media. Assist in maintaining the Environmental Education and Information Center at the Rachel Carson State Office Building. Assist in development and implementation of new exhibits and center upgrades. Welcome visiting groups and provide tours of the center. Demonstrate familiarity with DEP educational products in order to revise and update them in accordance with DEP policy and program initiatives as well as PDE mandates. Establish and maintain working relationships with PDE intermediate units and colleges to promote in-service teacher trainings. Coordinate the sharing of in-service products with PDE, DCNR, home school networks, the Pennsylvania Association of Environmental Education, and the Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts. Conduct needs assessment and gap analysis in curriculum tools applicable to environmental education topics in Pennsylvania. Provide education technical assistance to DEP employees engaged in the development of educational products, programs, and training sessions by: • Identifying target audiences • Researching needs assessment, learning level and current knowledge of target audiences • Designing an assessment component for the program, product or training • Review the design and development of the program, product or training for the four basic learning styles Evaluate public knowledge and school administration/teacher surveys on environmental issues to serve as a basis for suggesting DEP programs or products. Due to the remote location of many DEP field offices, the position requires travel throughout the state, occasionally on an overnight basis. |
