Position Purpose:

Receive, transmit, and coordinate communications at a Pa State Police installation to ensure its daily operations are conducted efficiently and effectively.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

60% Receives calls from the general public and county 911 operators regarding emergency and non-emergency police services (e.g. vehicle accidents, criminal activity, requests for police assistance). Questions callers to gather details, determine response requirements, and assign relative priorities of incidents. Dispatches and relays incident information to Troopers over radio, telephone, and computer systems. Contacts municipal police, fire, ambulance, towing, PennDOT, etc., to provide incident details and request assistance and response. Utilizes CLEAN, JNET, and PFAD to access, research, and maintain records. Establishes and maintains incident information in electronic record management systems. Communicates with Troopers and other PCOs regarding active incidents or concerns. Monitors the status and locations of Troopers. Interprets maps.

25% Receives and responds to administrative inquiries from the general public regarding department operations and services or activities related to law enforcement.

5% Assists station visitors by greeting, determining purpose of visit, and providing requested information or arranging for a Trooper to meet them.

5% Attends and participates in structured public safety communications training. Assists in training new PCOs on department policies, procedures, and practices pertaining to public safety communications.

5% Performs other related duties as assigned, to include those outlined in the Department’s Continuity of Government Plan when the Plan is activated. Responds to the designated alternate or secondary location when directed in response to a catastrophic incident.

Requirements Profile:
1. Employee must possess a clear, firm voice and no major speech, hearing, or visual impairments that would interfere with understanding verbal communication, being understood, or using electronic communications equipment and visual display equipment.
2. Employee must obtain valid Public Safety Telecommunicator certification issued by the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials within the probationary period and maintain the same for the duration of employment in this job.
3. Employee must obtain valid CLEAN and JNET certifications issued by the PA State Police within the probationary period and maintain the same for the duration of employment in this job.
