Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Maintains and repairs equipment and facilities so the Hatchery can operate in an efficient manner. Implements new technologies when possible.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Maintain and repair hatchery equipment including but not limited to pumps, generators, filters, fish culture specific and universal hand and power tools, and fish moving equipment.

Maintain, repair, and operate hatchery equipment to include backhoe, front end loader, vehicles, forklifts, skid steers, mowers, tractors, boats and outboard motors.

Oversee and coordinate with hatchery staff and outside vendors performing repair/maintenance duties.
Transport equipment and supplies between facilities or vendors.

Identify equipment that needs to be maintained/replaced with preventive maintenance plan.

Maintain grounds and roadways. Cut grass using lawn care equipment and plow snow.

Perform routine service, maintenance, and repair of: HVAC systems, plumbing systems, liquid oxygen systems, emergency alarm systems and minor electrical repairs.

Maintain and repair paved and unpaved roadways, sidewalks and parking areas to include but not limited to snow plowing.

Maintain and repair exterior and interior of buildings to include doors, windows, and roofs.

Maintain and repair fences, ponds, raceways, and other structures as needed.

Use and maintain safety equipment, and perform all work in a safe manner.

Purchase, track, and pay for repair parts and supplies as needed through the state purchasing systems.

Service, maintain, and perform minor repairs to hatchery vehicles. Prepare vehicles for PA state inspections on time and as required.

Identify and set up for repairs to be done by other agency personnel or by non-agency vendors.

Identify vehicles that need replaced.

Performs associated duties as required.

Works independently in performing all aspects of the job. Purchases necessary items to maintain constant readiness. Advises supervisor of any budgetary concerns associated with repairs of major issues that may arise.

Essential Functions

 1. Operates equipment such as loaders, backhoes, lawnmowers, chainsaws, skid steers, man lifts and forklifts.
 2. Works outside on various terrains and in all safe weather conditions.
 3. Operates computer and necessary software.
 4. Climb ladders and crawl underneath equipment /vehicles.
 5. Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and carpentry skills.
 6. Operates all necessary equipment, tools, vehicles and stocking trucks.
 7. Know how to use all necessary safety equipment.
 8. Lift equipment and supplies up to 50 lbs.
 9. Maintain tools and shop supplies.
 10. Fabricates items from wood, steel, aluminum, plastic and various other materials.
