Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. The following duties are performed at Penn National Race Course: 1. Identifies sample kit within the Test Barn Lab; verifies sample numbers on urine cup, blood tubes, security straps, and witness receipt. 2. Escorts assigned horse from the unsaddling area to the Test Barn. 3. Directs handler with assigned horse to assigned water bucket containing clean, fresh water. 4. Remains present when Livestock Worker 2 reads the horse tattoo and confirms the tattoo validation. 5. Maintains visual contact with assigned horse while in the shed row until all samples have been collected. 6. Insures that assigned horse drinks from assigned water bucket and remains in the Test Barn until all samples have been obtained. 7. Provides horsemen with equipment needed while in the test barn. 8. Ensures water bucket of assigned horse is full at all times. 9. Notifies Veterinarian that their assigned horse is ready to draw the blood sample. 10. Remains present/assists when Veterinarian validates the horse’s tattoo prior to blood draw. 11. Assists Veterinarian in obtaining blood samples from the horse. 12. Collects urine from assigned horses. 13. Returns urine sample to the test barn lab, split and wraps urine sample, and obtains witness signature according to established guidelines. 14. Assists in keeping inside and area surrounding the Test Barn clean and shed row clean, level, and free of rocks. 15. Assists in the cleaning and washing of horse stalls. 16. Ensures water buckets remain clean and disinfected daily. 17. Brings any tack left by the horseman in the shed row into the office. 18. Properly maintain assigned equipment. 19. Assist the Commission Veterinarian with duties as assigned. 20. Perform any other duties necessary, as determined by the supervisor, when personnel shortages occur. |
