Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. 20% - Research, plan, develop, implement, coordinate, and evaluate an effective orientation program for all new nursing employees. Evaluate and document each new nursing employee's progress during the orientation period. Develop, schedule and present professional educational resources and service training programs which meet the licensure regulations, standards, and requirements of DMVA, DOH, DHS, VA, and other official organizations. Research, develop, plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate lesson plans on a variety of health-related topics based on facility and staff needs 4% - Coordinate staff support for accurate documentation as it relates to the MDS. 10% - Instruct and lecture on aspects of nursing practice. Demonstrate new nursing procedures, equipment, etc., or contact the appropriate company representative for demonstration. 5% - Ensure CNA's receive all required training and in-service hours mandated by all licensing agencies of the facility. 5% - Provide other in-service training programs, which will assist all staff in striving for and achieving the resident care goals developed for and by DMVA and the facility. 5% - Devise, implement, and maintain a system for record keeping and storage of educational activities, trainings and programs, as needed. 10% - Confer with management staff regarding the educational needs of the facility. Provide professional educational resources and services on nursing care issues through assessment and needs evaluations to nursing staff. Keep abreast of and publicize in a timely manner the availability of appropriate out-service training programs that will contribute to the on-going program of staff development and quality care at the facility. 1% - Participate as a member of CQI and various other inter-departmental meetings. 6% - Validate nursing practices/procedures through research and continuing education. 20% - Attend all mandatory in-service as well as optional out-service programs as necessary to remain current with nursing practices and procedures. Collaborate with supervisors and human resource to schedule facility staff to attend in-service training programs. Satisfactorily complete all required competencies. Provide Nurse Manager 1 and Nurse Supervisors with a list of nursing staff required to make-up in-services following the initial training. 2% - Perform staff audits. Observe staff on the units for compliance to regulations and policies. 3% - Observe residents’ conditions; ensure changes are reported to appropriate staff. Record daily care performed for the residents on the appropriate forms and the approved electronic medical record. 2% - May schedule new employee physical examinations and conduct pre-employment testing procedures. 5% - Support the facility QAPI efforts by attending all assigned QAPI training. Follow established policies and procedures in support of QAPI efforts. Participate in PIP teams as assigned. Share ideas for improvement in the organization and support QAPI efforts both verbally and non-verbally, including adjusting performance and practice in accordance with QAPI initiatives and findings. Design, participate, monitor and analyze departmental and facility performance improvement activities. 1% - Performs work in accordance with the DMVA general safety rules and safety rules for this position. Immediately reports all workplace injuries or incidents to the supervisor; and/or immediately corrects any safety hazards in the work area or reports same to supervisor. 1% - Perform other related duties as required. Follow universal precautions. Use required personal protective equipment such as gloves, masks, gowns, goggles, face shield, etc. Obtains and maintains Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. |
