Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Provides skilled work in the operation of equipment and/or vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of 32,001 pounds or more and the performance of manual work for the operation and maintenance of the Moshannon State Forest.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Operates specialized equipment such as graders, backhoes, bulldozers, high-lifts or front end loaders with a bucket capacity of three cubic yards or more which are used in general construction, maintenance or grounds work, including snow removal and cindering operations.

Operates vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of 32,001 pounds or more, such as dump trucks, tankers and tractor trailers which are used in general construction, maintenance or grounds work, including snow removal and cindering operations.

Performs manual work on assigned projects when not operating equipment.

Performs general maintenance to forestry grounds and facilities.

Performs repairs and preventive maintenance work on equipment and cleans and services equipment.

Assist with other operations such as, snowmobile trail maintenance, snow removal, facility security and protection, and the delivery of supplies and equipment.

Completes safety checks and inspections of equipment prior to operation and maintains records of operated equipment including those of commercial vehicles exceeding 32,000 pounds gross vehicle weight, as appropriate.

Demonstrates the operation of assigned equipment to other employees.

Assists with fire prevention, pre-suppression and suppression activities. Duties include manning a fire tower when requested.

Assists in all aspects of controlled burns/prescribed fire operations for the purpose of fuel reduction, forest and wildlife management.

Assists with various District programs such as tree removal, timber marking, surveying, seeding, fertilizing, erosion control and wildlife projects.

Can be temporarily reassigned to other maintenance areas as needed.

Performs other related work as required.

Operates equipment in an appropriate and safe manner. Determines best way to accomplish assigned tasks. Determines if equipment is operationally sound. Reports more extensive needed repairs to supervisor. Detailed instructions are usually reviewed from a supervisor on new assignments. Oral instructions are received on a routine or repetitive nature. Work is reviewed during progress and upon completion.
