Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This position is responsible for the repair and maintenance of gasoline powered vehicles and equipment (SUV’s, Pick-up, trucks, vans, cars, dump trucks, ATV, UTV, snowmobiles, forklift, and trailers) assigned to the Forest District.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Repairs and maintains Forest District gasoline powered vehicles and equipment.
• Including trucks, dump trucks, cars, vans, SUV’s, ATV, UTV, snowmobiles, forklift, and trailers.
• Assists Diesel Mechanic with vehicle repairs as necessary by performing routing maintenance work other than fuel system diagnosis and repair.
• Responds to emergency calls traveling throughout the district to investigate equipment breakdowns and make field repairs as needed.
• Maintains necessary equipment, repair records and completes required reports.
• Responds to Search and Rescue, Fire (wildfire and prescribe) when requested.
• Keep shop area and equipment clean and organized, safe and secure.
• Operates dump trucks, tilt bed and tractor trailer combination over 26,000 GVW rating to transport vehicles and equipment to repair and inspect.
• Performs PA State Inspections and Emissions testing on vehicles and equipment as required.
• Maintain a reachable telephone number for communication.

Makes routine field decisions as required to continue work and complete assigned tasks as instructed by the Forest Maintenance Supervisor. At times the employee may be designated as a lead worker for a small group of workers to complete a specific work assignment

Experience:

Makes day-to-day operational decisions in his area of responsibility with general work assignment and occasional specific direction from the Assistant Forest Manager.
