Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This is a varied position which requires the performance of preventive maintenance and repairs to a wide range of mechanical and electrical equipment, power supply and lighting systems, fire alarm systems, traffic light controls, carbon monoxide analyzing systems and tunnel ventilation fan.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

This incumbent must have the personal hand tools required of a journeyman electrician tradesman.

Cleaning and lubricating of ventilation fan motors, bearings, damper and drive units and the associated mechanical repair, adjustment, and parts replacement.

Locate and analyze electrical circuitry faults and defective electrical components by means of interpreting drawings and schematics, and through the use of test equipment.

Repairs, adjusts or replaces worn and/or defective components.

Works on low-voltage control circuits and industrial-rated high-voltage systems with a voltage above 480 volts and below 23,000 volts, servicing and cleaning tunnel light fixtures, to include, re-lamping, ballast, socket fixture repair, rewiring and replacement.

Installs electrical devices, fixtures, cable and conduits, in accordance with accepted standards and codes of the electrical trade. Services and maintains detection and recording devices.

In the performance of these duties the employee must work shifts, other than just the normal daytime shift. The employee must be able to lift, carry and hold objects or tunnel light fixtures weighing up to 50 lbs.

Performs a variety of duties that requires use of various electrical, gasoline and/or air powered tools and small equipment.

Incumbent must be able to lift, pull, push, grasp, twist, and strike or swing various hand tools such as wrenches, pry bars, ropes, cables, drivers and hammers. The incumbent must also be able to climb ladders, and work from ladders and/or other aerial equipment or scaffolding.

Prepares the setup for Traffic patterns with the use of cones, drums, signs, shadow trucks, and flashing arrows for work-zone protection. Performance of the work may require standing or walking for long periods of time in either an upright or crouched posture, while wearing a face mask respirator and hard hat. Work may be performed in areas adjacent to moving traffic, although with maintained traffic protection. There can be exposure to potentially poisonous plants, insects or animals, and the employee may be subject to injuries such as bruises, cuts, scrapes, sprains and strains.

Implements the environmental protection requirements of maintenance work activities performed by the employee.

Also fulfills the environmental management requirements designated for this title in environmental training programs.

Recognizing that everyone is involved in the District’s and County’s actions to demonstrate sound environmental practices, each employee fulfills the objects related to the Strategic Environmental Management Program (SEMP).

Also, supports the efforts of other employees to meet these objectives.

Attends environmental training identified for this Working Title in the District’s SEMP Manual.

Performs other related duties as required.

Take an active role in succession planning by completing a Career Development Plan in collaboration with the supervisor. In conjunction with the supervisor, participate in knowledge management/transfer by identifying key aspects of the job and sharing explicit and tacit program/technical knowledge with other employees.
