Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. This position supervises and instructs inmates in a structured classroom and on-the-job training program in the electronics trade at SCI Laurel Highlands. This work is performed to ensure the efficient operation of the facility and provide vocational training to inmates. |
Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. 70% Provides classroom and on-the-job training and instruction to inmates, which includes the standard practices, methods, and procedures of the electronics trade involving the maintenance and repair of various electronic, electrical, and mechanical devices used in the electronics, radio, and television repair or broadcast industry. Conducts classroom training through the delivery of an appropriate curriculum of the trade. Maintains order and discipline of inmates during work assignments and classroom instruction. Maintains documentation of all inmate training progress, attendance, and assignment details. Oversees and directs inmate work crews in completing electronics work orders as part of the on-the-job training provided. Plans and assigns daily inmate schedules and inspects completed work assignments. 10% Issues and inventories all materials and tools used during the classroom training and while completing on-the-job work assignments. Conducts searches to ensure that all materials and tools are accounted for. 10% Determines materials and tools needed to complete electronics work assignments. Submits purchase requests for materials and tools as necessary. 10% Performs other related duties as assigned. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Exercise care, custody, and control over inmates 2. Apply physical force and intervention when appropriate and necessary 3. Instruct and oversee inmates in the standard principles and practices of the electronics trade 4. Reach, bend, stoop, pull, push, kneel, lift, climb, and grasp 5. Be mobile over all types of physical surfaces and levels 6. Spend prolonged periods of time standing or walking 7. Work all shifts and posts as required by operational necessities and emergencies 8. Work mandatory overtime in compliance with provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, with little or no advance notice, whether on or off duty at the time of notification 9. Maintain regular and reliable attendance 10. Use and maintain various equipment and tools used in the electronics trade 11. Operate basic office equipment 12. Properly wear all portions of assigned uniform 13. Effectively communicate verbally and in writing 14. Establish and maintain effective working relationships 15. Hear and identify sounds (voices, whistle, buzzer, lock release, scuffling, sudden quiet) 16. Visually observe inmates’ activities 17. Administer emergency medical assistance to inmates and staff 18. Attend and participate in all mandatory training and/or testing 19. Travel as required |
