Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Performs all the supervisory responsibilities for assigned Custodial Workers by planning, directing and controlling work performed to provide a clean, sanitary and attractive environment. Areas are maintained in a condition that complies with the standards of surveying and accrediting agencies and standards required by the Center and the Department of Human Services.

Description of Duties:

Working time percentages are approximate and can change from day to day based on operational needs.

65% of working time:
Plans, assigns and supervises the work of Custodial Workers in a variety of custodial tasks such as mopping, dusting, scrubbing, polishing, and aseptic cleaning in assigned areas, linen and laundry pick up/distribution, gathering and washing of laundry in-house, collecting waste and infectious waste materials for disposal, window washing and performs various custodial tasks as assigned or as necessary based on operational needs or problems. Makes frequent inspections of above listed work and orders corrections and adjustments as necessary. Instructs staff and ensures that safety precautions are followed while performing duties. Reads Material safety Data Sheets and instructs staff on the proper use of equipment and chemicals.

20% of working time:
Maintains employees time records; schedules work assignments; and approves or disapproves leave requests; monitors sick leave use and takes corrective action in instances of abuse so that leave is used properly and sufficient staff is always available to effectively conduct operations.

Prepares work schedules and arranges last-minute assignment changes due to special circumstances, absenteeism, etc. Plans work by inspecting assigned areas and special project sites to identify what needs to be done and to determine required personnel, supplies and equipment. Necessary coordination is effected with other departments and within the Environmental Services Department so that staff, equipment and supplies are available on-site and on-time and work is done with minimum disruption to normal programs and operations.

10% of working time:
Receives, stores, disposes of the personal possessions of admitted, discharged or deceased residents, as directed and stores personal possessions of residents on the active census.

4% of working time:
Maintains inventory of supplies, equipment and tools, requisitions as needed, established and enforces inventory and security controls on issue and use of materials. Continuously evaluates effectiveness of tools, equipment and products making recommendations for change or for more effective use. Maintains necessary records of operation and maintenance on assigned equipment. Inventory and records are maintained in order to prevent pilferage and insure that necessary supplies are available to accomplish work.

1% of working time:
Develops job descriptions and performance standards for all assigned Custodial Workers. Discusses with employees to insure understanding and counsels as needed to address performance problems. Develops constructive, cooperative working relationships with subordinates, supervisors, peers and co-workers so that performance and work interactions are focused on carrying out the department’s mission.

Requests needed repairs for building, equipment and furniture.

Can make decisions on daily guidelines, any permanent changes need the approval of the manager.
