Assists a bridge inspection team leader in performing a variety of technical duties associated with the inspection of bridges and other structures in accordance with the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS). |
Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Performs or assists with bridge safety inspections on existing bridges, including bridge structural members, foundations, supports and components. Inspects bridges for elements such as accident damage, water scouring of footings, wear or corrosion on pins, I bars, and other steel members, deck alignment with roadway, concrete disintegration on abutments and piers and condition of bearing pads. Inspects bridge components, measures bridge members, clearances, sketching and recording deterioration, and rating bridge components. Prepares bridge inspection reports documenting findings regarding the current condition and deficiencies. Assists in conducting underwater inspections, crane inspections and various deck surveys. Assists in maintaining bridge inspection records to include data recorded in BMS2, I-forms, photographs, and field sketches. Assists in maintaining bridge inspection equipment and a two-year inspection cycle. The cycle will include annual, semi-annual, crane, and special inspections. Inventories, inspects and documents current condition and deficiencies of overhead sign structures, roadway retaining walls, and high mast lighting. Maintains Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) required paper documentation for all state-owned structures. Assists in preparing a neat, systematic and well documented bridge inspection report addressing all the critical findings regarding the current condition and deficiencies to include all the NBIS required recording elements as mentioned in PUB 238. Prepares bridge work orders and sketches for structure repairs for contractor or maintenance forces when necessary. Compiles and takes photographs, review sketches, and prepares an inspection review summary. Recognizing that everyone is involved in the District's and County's actions to demonstrate sound environmental practices, each employee fulfills the maintenance unit business plan objectives related to the Strategic Environmental Management Program (SEMP). Attends environmental training as required. Performs related duties as assigned. Safety: 1. Assess your environment and be responsible for your safety, the safety of co-workers, and the public. 2. Attend required safety trainings and adhere to the requirements of all safety manuals, policies, and laws. 3. Immediately report to your supervisor any incident, unsafe practice, or near miss. 4. When in an enclosed environment (office buildings, confined spaces, flagger stations, equipment pinch points, etc.), know your evacuation process and escape route, your communication protocols, and appropriately react in the event of an incident. 5. Evaluate the contractor's operations: -Immediately stop any unsafe actions. -Engage in an ongoing safety dialogue with the contractor's leadership. Succession Planning: Take an active role in succession planning by completing a Career Development Plan in collaboration with the supervisor. In conjunction with the supervisor, participate in knowledge management/transfer by identifying key aspects of the job and sharing explicit and tacit program/technical knowledge with other employees. Department Green Plan Policy: Commit to following the Department's Green Plan Policy (PUB 712) and the associated principles. Failure to comply with the Department's Green Plan Policy shall be documented in the employee's performance review. Fair Labor Standards Act: Unless directed otherwise by your supervisor or manager, comply with stated work hours for the 7.5/8.0-hour day. |
