Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This position is responsible for helping the district meet its goals and objectives by assisting the foresters with all aspects of timber management program; helping maintain the districts deer fences and office grounds; this position is also responsible for helping with Forest Fire Protection; and accomplishing special projects as assigned.


Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

I. Timber Management
A. Obtain timber volumes by marking and/or cruising as prescribed by the forester in charge of the sale.
B. Survey and mark timber sale boundaries, herbicide spray blocks, and planting sites laid out by the foresters using district GPS units and make appropriate maps with district computer programs.
C. Enter data collected by foresters into the computer.
D. Assist foresters in the collection of field data for stand analysis, sale layout, RX fire etc.
F. Assist foresters in collection of data for regeneration projects such as CVTA's.
G. Assist foresters in collection of vegetative impact protocol (VIP) plots used for making DMAP decisions.
E. May be assigned as lead worker for a crew of other forest technicians and/or semi-skilled laborers for the execution of projects planned by foresters. These projects may include such things as deer fence construction and maintenance, tree planting, timber marking, seed collection and wildlife habitat management.

II. Deer Fence
A. Assist the maintenance divisions with fence maintenance, fence construction, and fence dismantling.

III. Insect and Disease
A. Assist district FPM coordinator with surveillance flights, ground checking and spray projects.

IV. Forest Fire Protection
A. Assist with forest fire prevention, prescribed fire, pre-suppression, and suppression activities.

V. General
A. Perform any other job related duties requested by their supervisor.

Work is assigned verbally. Instruction and supervision is received on new assignments. Routine duties are performed according to established methods and procedures. Work is normally performed with considerable independence. Initiative and good judgment is exercised after experience is gained on the job. Assignments are reviewed upon completion for compliance with standards.
