Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Serves as the Correctional Industries Assistant Director and oversees the day to day activities of the Operations Division and coordinates, plans and executes major industry expansion projects.

Description of Duties:

This position is responsible for assisting the Correctional Industries Director in the day-to-day management of the Bureau. The Assistant Director directly supervises the Operations Manager and acts for the Director in his absence.

Consults and coordinates with the Director to formulate long and short term planning strategies for the Bureau.

Develops Bureau Policies related to manufacturing and service operations and sales, marketing and customer service.

Researches and analyzes potential new industries to determine profitability and employment of inmates.

Plans and monitors use of proposed and existing facilities. Review plant layout to insure efficient operations.

Conducts on-site visits to insure suitability of physical plant to usage or potential industry.

Conducts regularly scheduled staff meetings.

Assigns special projects to investigate operations policies and procedures at all C.I. locations.

Develops training programs for staff and inmates to meet department and industry objectives.

Interfaces with Central Office and Institution Management to insure compliance with institutional, department, and industry policies, cooperatively manage shops, coordinate with institutional staff to accomplish Correctional Industries’ objectives.

Interfaces with other state agencies and customers as required.

Assists in developing contracts for raw materials and agreements with contractors. Provide advice and direction regarding development of policies, procedures, and other management issues.

Interfaces with other management staff within the bureau relative to administrative issues.

Plans and oversees annual industry managers’ meetings and industry committee meetings.

Analyzes financial data and sales trends to improve efficiencies and business performance.

Represents the Director when required, serves on committees, and performs other related duties as assigned by the Director.

Performs all supervisory duties related to the supervision of the Operations Manager.

Essential Functions
