Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Performs a variety of tasks in the repair and maintenance of structures, bridges, equipment, and machinery in order to ensure the safety of the traveling public. Requires knowledge and proficiency in the trades of carpentry, welding, masonry, electrical and plumbing; performed at the journeyman level. Maintains and repairs structures, drainage culverts, bridges, and other roadway structures by building forms, pouring, and finishing concrete, welding metal support structures and replacement part. Measures, cuts, and installs pipe, netting and other materials as needed such as for grates, inlets, bridge decking etc. Operates a variety of construction equipment in the performance of duties such as arc welders, mig welders, pipe threaders, concrete saws, chain saws, air compressors, hammer drills, jackhammers, chipping hammers, de-scaler, generators, pumps, carpentry tools, power tools, forklifts, personal lifting devices, bucket trucks, and a wide variety of hand tools and other power and pneumatic tools. Performs carpentry work as needed to update and maintain building and offices. Construct shelving, partitions, signs, etc. as needed. Install and repair drop ceilings, doors and flooring. Operate power saws, drills, hand tools, etc. to perform these carpentry duties. Performs electrical work as needed to maintain or expand on the existing service. Install additional light fixtures, electrical outlets, replace additional telephone and computer wiring and television cables as required. Replace light bulbs and fixtures. Maintains existing plumbing fixtures and install new plumbing when needed. Repair or replace faucets, drains, water pipes, toilets, and drinking fountains. Checks and perform normal maintenance and minor adjustments to HVAC System in all York County maintenance sheds. Coordinates work and provide leadership to semi-skilled workers as required. Advises supervisor of necessary major contract repairs and perform general inspection of contract work as it progresses. Maintains open positive relations with other unit members. Maintain clean and orderly work areas. Performs duties in a safe manner utilizing proper safety equipment, following safety rules and procedures. Participates actively in quality improvement efforts and recommend new techniques and ideas to improve the building environment and systems. Follows proper attendance and call off procedures. Schedules non-emergency absences in advance; observes start/stop times, breaks, and meal times; works efficiently and effectively alone and with others; is available for overtime emergency responses; and minimizes nonproductive and down time for self and crew. Maintain positive communications between yourself, managers and co-workers. Assess your environment and be responsible for your safety, the safety of co-workers, and the public. Attend required safety training and adhere to the requirements of all safety manuals, policies, and laws. Immediately report to your supervisor any incident, unsafe practice, or near miss. When in an enclosed environment (office buildings, confined spaces, flagger stations, equipment pinch points, etc.), know your evacuation process and escape route, your communication protocols, and appropriately react in the event of an incident. Performs other duties as required Safety (all employees): 1. Assess your environment and be responsible for your safety, the safety of co-workers, and the public. 2. Attend required safety training and adhere to the requirements of all safety manuals, policies, and laws. 3. Immediately report to your supervisor any incident, unsafe practice, or near miss. 4. When in an enclosed environment (office buildings, confined spaces, flagger stations, equipment pinch points, etc.}, know your evacuation process and escape route, your communication protocols, and appropriately react in the event of an incident. Succession Planning: Take an active role in succession planning by completing a Career Development Plan in collaboration with the supervisor. In conjunction with the supervisor, participate in knowledge management/transfer by identifying key aspects of the job and sharing explicit and tacit program/technical knowledge with other employees. Department Green Plan Policy: Commit to following the Department’s Green Plan Policy (Pub 712) and the associated principles. Failure to comply with the Department’s Green Plan Policy shall be documented in the employee’s performance review. Fair Labor Standards Act: Unless directed otherwise by your supervisor or manager, comply with stated work hours for the 7.5/8.0-hour day. |
