Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

Assists higher level positions in the drafting and development of the components for minor, moderately complex, and complex projects. Performs the highway Computer-Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) work and uses all equipment associated with this duty.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.


Performs technical work in the preparation of a wide variety of highway plans, bridge plans, right-of-way plot plans, and similar supplemental drawings.

Uses Computer-Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) workstations and/or conventional drafting techniques (occasionally inking information on plans) associated with the development and preparation of highway or bridge plans or portions of plans that are consistent with Design Manual - Part 3, Pub. 408, Items Catalog and CADD Standards from preliminary sketches to final detailed working plans, including such items as layouts and materials.

Drafts detailed construction plans and assists checking horizontal and vertical grade lines, drawing profiles and cross sections, and placing typical templates on cross sections, computing earthwork and materials quantities and calculating excavation under guidance of higher-level designers and/or supervisor.

Interprets and plotting deeds to develop right-of-way plans.

Interprets conventional and three-dimensional surveys to produce plan sheets of existing geometry.

Prepares plans from preliminary drainage and design sketches from engineering and survey notes and 3D surveys.

Assists designers in the preparation of complete sets of highway and bridge plans.

Uses the Roadway Management System (RMS) to gather segment and offset information.

Uses Auto Tab to generate the tabulation and summary sheets, as well as the construction estimate.

Maintains various libraries, as assigned, and providing the status of libraries to the Lead CADD Operator on a regular basis for distribution to the designers.

Attends and participating in the District CADD Users Group meetings held by the Lead CADD Operator.

Prepares miscellaneous maps, sketches, and graphs for District presentations.

Prepares and assisting, as needed, in making presentations to local officials and at public meetings.

Participates in design field views, final inspections and office meetings and preparing meeting minutes as required.

Drafts quality roadway and bridge projects on time and within budget.

Provides good customer service to our partners on design projects.

Supports communication between Design, Maintenance and Construction.

Supports and maintains a professional business-like atmosphere that enables Project Delivery to be responsive to changing conditions, alert for new opportunities and able to implement new ideas.

Performing other related duties, as required.

Safety:

4. When in an enclosed environment (office buildings, confined spaces, flagger stations, equipment pinch points, etc.), know your evacuation process and escape route, your communication protocols, and appropriately react in the event of an incident.

Succession Planning:
Take an active role in succession planning by completing a Career Development Plan in collaboration with the supervisor. In conjunction with the supervisor, participate in knowledge management/transfer by identifying key aspects of the job and sharing explicit and tacit program/technical knowledge with other employees.

Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA):
Unless directed otherwise by your supervisor or manager, comply with stated work hours for the 7.5/8.0 hour day.

Work is assigned through the Project Manager. Work is reviewed on a continual basis through informal discussions with the project manager. All completed work of a non-routine nature passes through the project manager for review and approval.
