Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Performs a variety of independent technical duties in the inspection of materials and workmanship on highway construction projects. Ensure that all construction work is completed in conformance with approved construction codes, plans, standards and specifications. Performs as Inspector-in-Charge as directed when necessary, as per Publication 2, Project Office Manual. Perform work as the inspector of simple to moderately complex transportation construction projects and guiderail inspection. Ensure that all construction work is completed in conformance with approved construction codes, plans, standards and specifications. Perform a variety of independent technical duties in the inspection of materials and workmanship on transportation construction projects to ensure conformance with contract requirements and established standards and specifications. Independently inspect any and all phases of transportation construction work. Assist checking grades, elevations, structure stake-out and roadway stake-out with contractor/surveyor. Complete, document and check work performed by contractors and participate as a team member as part of the inspection staff as outlined in the Project Office Manual (Publication 2) and as required by Publication 408. Proficiently utilize Department supplied computer software in completing project documentation and perform direct entry of daily documentation into the electronic documentation system NextGen. Produce reports as needed and/or required for project records and interpret the results to track progress and schedule (CPM). Track and check material quantities and testing utilizing either manual or computerized methods. Interact with Department staff, other federal, state and local agencies, legislators and the general public to ensure the effective administration of transportation construction projects. Complete master diary, PSA's, mathematical calculations, item quantity estimates, project cost estimates, work orders, time extensions and all applicable construction project documentation manually or electronically. Assist in resolving field construction problems that are encountered. Inspect the placement of materials such as cement concrete, bituminous concrete, drainage materials and all materials applicable to transportation construction. Perform mathematical calculations to determine consistency of materials being used, draw sketches, note field plan changes, and maintain consolidated construction inspection progress and quality control reports associated with the work being accomplished. Provide compaction testing (visual non-movement method) of sub-surface strata, soils, aggregate, etc. during construction. Execute your daily responsibilities to ensure that transportation projects are completed in accordance with all existing regulations, policies and procedures and in an expeditious and cost-effective manner. Enhance communications among all Construction Division staff as well as throughout the organization to ensure awareness of how I as an employee can meet the Department's goals and objective and deliver effective customer service. When in an enclosed environment (office buildings, confined spaces, flagger stations, equipment pinch points, etc.), know your evacuation process and escape route, your communication protocols, and appropriately react in the event of an incident. 5. Evaluate contractor operations: • Immediately stop unsafe actions • Engage in ongoing safety dialogue with the contractor's leadership 6. Promote a CULTURE that emphasizes SAFETY as a core value: • Immediately stop any unsafe actions. • Incorporate safety into all discussions, deliberations, and decisions. • Continuously communicate the safety direction. • Inspire employees to be a MODEL for safety. • Encourage and support safety initiatives and programs by participating and involving staff. • Recognize safety daily. • Acknowledge EXTRAORDINARY achievements. • Learn and improve through After-Action Reviews (AAR's) • Enforce accountability. Succession Planning Take an active role in succession planning by completing a Career Development Plan in collaboration with the supervisor. In conjunction with the supervisor, participate in knowledge management/transfer by identifying key aspects of the job and sharing explicit and tacit program/technical knowledge with other employees. Department Green Plan Policy Commit to following the Departments Green Plan Policy (Pub 712) and the associated principals. Failure to comply with Department Green Plan Policy shall be documented in employee's performance review. Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) Unless directed otherwise by your supervisor or manager, comply with stated work hours for the 7.5/8.0 hour day. |
