Position Purpose: Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. This position is located in the Division of Installation Maintenance at Fort Indiantown Gap. It is responsible for technical and skilled duties involving the maintenance, repair, adjustment, monitoring, and operation of electrical power distribution systems and associated equipment with a voltage below 23,000 volts. |
Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. - Install and maintain transformers, switchgears, and emergency standby generators; repair and replace underground cables; identify and troubleshoot problem areas; and install, test, and maintain electrical machinery, devices, and allied equipment within assigned state/federal buildings/facilities at Fort Indiantown Gap. - Clean, test, adjust, repair, and replace electrical control equipment such as air and oil circuit breakers, switchgears, transformers, cables, synchronous motors, and other electrical equipment. - Install, maintain, troubleshoot problem areas of standby, both fixed and/or mobile, generators and related equipment by means of various instruments, such as ammeters, voltmeters, meggers, industrial analyzers and/or graphic recorders. - When required, assist the BRM Diesel Equipment Generator Mechanic in the performance of his weekly preventive maintenance and test runs of all standby generators. - Read/analyze blueprints and schematic diagrams to determine and resolve electrical system problems, such as short circuits, power outages, and equipment failures. Assist in monitoring and evaluating system performance to determine when subsystems are not performing properly and impacting the efficient operation of the overall system. - Change, connect, disconnect, parallel or affect substitutions for electrical equipment and conductors, using switchgear mode of operation. - Select and use the appropriate splice kit and tape for line repair, both overhead and in confined space situations. - Inspect and maintain ultraviolet (UV) light at the Sequential Batch Reactor (SBR) at the Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP). - Inspect and maintain ventilating fans, fire alarms systems, traffic control lights, airport hanger, and runway lighting systems. - Operate a lift or bucket truck to make electrical repairs on area and parking lot lighting systems. - Prepare material lists, cost estimates and material/equipment requisitions essential to the installation, repair, and maintenance of various electrical systems/equipment projects. - Comply with legal, procedural, safety, and recordkeeping requirements for medium voltage electrical work. Maintain a current knowledge of electrical regulations and code requirements. - Apply the proper methods, techniques, tools, and equipment used in the Medium Voltage Electrician trade. - Ensure that all electrical work is performed under IAW requirements of the National Electrical Code for the User of Safety. - Promote the proper and safe use of all tools and equipment and comply with all established safety measures when working within the electrical trade. Ensure that all issued Personal Protective equipment (PPE) is utilized in the performance of assigned duties. - Establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers and co-workers. - Submit periodic reports listing the type and number of repairs or installations undertaken. - Perform work in accordance with the DMVA general safety rules and safety rules for this position. Immediately report all workplace injuries or incidents to the supervisor; and/or immediately correct any safety hazards in the work area or report same to the supervisor. - Our goals will be achieved by continuing our focus on injury reduction through education and accountability. - Perform other related duties as required. **Must possess a valid federal or state-issued photo ID and pass a favorable NCIC screening for admittance to Fort Indiantown Gap.** |
