Position Purpose:
Describe the primary purpose of this position and how it contributes to the organization’s objectives. Example: Provides clerical and office support within the Division to ensure its operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. 

This position is considered an Essential Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Employee. Position is responsible for collaborating with certified operators to ensure efficient operations of Fort Indiantown Gap’s Wastewater Treatment Plant and collections systems. Position will ensure environmentally safe facility managing safe disposal of wastewater and sludge.

Description of Duties:
Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor.

Participates and assists certified operator with all sewage/water treatment activities with a design flow of 1,000,000 gallons max of 2,500,000 gallons; trains to learn proper settling, biological oxidation, digestion, filtration and disinfection through use of U.V. system to treat wastewater. Operates sludge press or other means of disposal of bio-solids. Through classroom and on-the-job training, learns to read meters and gauges, operate influent screen, Sewerage pumping stations, sludge pump, blowers, digesters, valves and laboratory monitoring and record keeping producing a wastewater effluent of sufficient quality.

Participates in (769) manhole inspections yearly, participates in over 49 miles of sewer line collection system inspections. Prepares sewer collection system reports pending sewer line investigations.

Becomes familiar with law, regulations and requirements of NPDES discharge permit issued by the Department of Environmental Resources.
Will learn daily required lab work and sampling procedures for in house usage and DEP requirements. Proper laboratory equipment calibration for testing.
Participates and assists with maintenance, operation and regulatory compliance necessary to ensures that discharge water from sewage at acceptable levels following regulation.

Assists with operating pump station, monitoring facility controls and related equipment, utility water system needs.

Participates and assists certified operator with preventive and general maintenance on sewage treatment plant and other related equipment and facilities to insure uninterrupted operation of these services; assists and monitors efficiency of operation and treatment processes of the sewage treatment plant.

Attends classroom and on-the-job training to earn certification in wastewater treatment plant operation and knowledge of all regulations, laws under the state's Department of Environmental Protection.

Trains to earn appropriate certification for classes and type of plant operated, as issued by the PA State Board for Certification of Water and Wastewater System Operator. Must obtain a waste water certified license within one year of hire.

Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, or diagrams to plan and complete assigned work as necessary. Stores the blueprints, schematics, or diagrams appropriately for future projects and assignments as required.

Performs related work as required.

**Must possess a valid federal or state-issued photo ID and pass a favorable NCIC screening for admittance to Fort Indiantown Gap.**

Essential Functions

 1. Participates in operation of the sewage treatment plant, water system in a safe, efficient and economic manner.
 2. Assists to read meters and gauges in the operation of sewage treatment plant/water system

 5. Performs housekeeping and grounds keeping duties at the treatment plant, as needed
