Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. The incumbent assists in installing sign posts, erecting and replacing regulatory signs, traffic warning signs, destination signs, state route markers and delineators, removal of signs, replacing small pavement markers, complaint investigation and resolution. The incumbent assists in locating and installing directional, warning, routing, and other types of highway signs. The incumbent replaces broken posts or damaged signs. The incumbent assists with resetting and/or installing “downed”, damaged and/or destroyed signs. The incumbent assists with resetting and/or installing downed, damaged and/or destroyed “Stop Signs” in accordance with Department policies and procedures. The incumbent assist with the installation of signing for detours, road closures, bridge closures and/or restrictions. The incumbent clears vegetation, cuts weeds and brush around signs to alleviate obstructions. The incumbent clears intersections of vegetation to ensure proper sight distance is maintained. The incumbent assists with all “Sign Upgrades” required by Work Orders received from the county and/or the District Traffic Unit, including but limited to, replacing obsolete, outdated, and worn-out signs and upgrading existing signs to be in compliance with current standards. The incumbent assists with the removal of non-permitted signs along state highways. The incumbent assists with maintaining physical sign inventories including both roadway and inventory stock. The incumbent assists with the signing and sign maintenance of all stockpiles facilities within Fayette County. The incumbent operates and maintains all necessary tools and equipment. When necessary, the incumbent functions as a “Lead Worker”. The incumbent performs activities related to maintenance and housekeeping of all signing facilities. The incumbent maintains a safe work environment for self, co-workers and the motoring public by following proper safety procedures and using protective equipment. The incumbent makes visual observations, manual adjustments, and reports findings in both written and oral format. The incumbent maintains awareness of work area helping self and others to avoid risks and hazards; reports all personal injuries and equipment accidents immediately and gets proper treatment to minimize risk of further injury. The incumbent follows proper attendance and call off procedures; schedules non-emergency absences in advance; observes start/stop times, breaks, and meal times; works efficiently and effectively alone and with others; minimizes non-productive and down time for self and crew; and observes and works in accordance with the Department of Transportation Work Rules. The incumbent implements the environmental protection requirements of maintenance work activities performed by the employee. The incumbent also fulfills the environmental management requirements designated for this position in environmental training programs. The incumbent recognizes that everyone is involved in the District’s and County’s actions to demonstrate sound environmental practices and fulfills the maintenance unit business plan objectives related to the Strategic Environmental Management Program (SEMP). The incumbent also supports the efforts of other employees to meet these objectives. The incumbent attends environmental training designated in the District’s SEMP Manual for Sound Environmental Practices for this position. The incumbent performs related work as required. Safety: 1. Assess your environment and be responsible for your safety, the safety of co-workers, and the public. 2. Attend required safety training and adhere to the requirements of all safety manuals, policies, and laws. 3. Immediately report to your supervisor any incident, unsafe practice, or near miss. 4. When in an enclosed environment (office buildings, confined spaces, flagger stations, equipment pinch points, etc.), know your evacuation process and escape route, your communication protocols, and appropriately react in the event of an incident. Succession Planning: Take an active role in succession planning by completing a Career Development Plan in collaboration with the supervisor. In conjunction with the supervisor, participate in knowledge management/transfer by identifying key aspects of the job and sharing explicit and tacit program/technical knowledge with other employees. Department Green Plan Policy: Commit to following the Departments Green Plan Policy (Pub 712) and the associated principals. Failure to comply with Department Green Plan Policy shall be documented in employee’s performance review. Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA): Unless directed otherwise by your supervisor or manager, comply with stated work hours for the 7.5/8.0-hour day. |
