Description of Duties: Describe in detail the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. Descriptions should include the major end result of the task. Example: Types correspondence, reports, and other various documents from handwritten drafts for review and signature of the supervisor. Maintain, repair, and operate all ranges and assigned training facilities to support military training. Select, measure, cut, sharp, joint, finish and assemble component parts and finish items which include target frames, range panels, turning boards, tables, blackboards, chart stands, instruction item display stands, silhouette, and mock-ups of firing chamber and mechanisms, smoke generators, mines, tank barriers, large ammunition, aiming circles, range finding compasses and equipment, and miscellaneous items of ordnance, transportation, signal, or engineer equipment. Assemble items by gluing, nailing, screwing, and clamping. Construct over 75 different non-electrical targets from simple frame targets to detailed tank silhouette targets for 14 ranges. Construct and perform general and preventive maintenance on range structures such as control towers, stairs, latrines, door and window frames, scorers' benches, lane markers, limit markers, and rifle racks. Operate automated and computer-controlled ranges and targetry systems. Install, maintain, and operate target devices and mechanisms. Assist military units with range equipment operation. Perform electrical trade duties such as locate and correct power failures and short circuits, install open and concealed wiring and lighting fixtures, maintain and repair electrical equipment and appliance, repair motors, relays, switches, receptacles, and controls, and replace ballasts, light bulbs, etc. Assist with operation of simulators in gunnery and marksmanship training. Operate and maintain tools and equipment in good working condition such as jointer, planer, drill press, table, radial arm, panel, circular and hand saws, vises, miter box, hammer, chisels, knives, rules and gauges, etc. Make minor repairs and perform preventive maintenance such as oiling, cleaning, and adjusting. Operate and maintain forklift (4,000 lb. lift) and small skid loader with attachments. Abide by safety practices and procedures. Assist journeyman trades and sub-journeyman trades workers, etc., in performing semi-skilled and skilled maintenance and repair tasks throughout Fort Indiantown Gap. Performs work in accordance with the DMVA general safety rules and safety rules for this position. Immediately reports all workplace injuries or incidents to the supervisor; and/or immediately corrects any safety hazards in the work area or reports same to supervisor. Outfit armor targets with thermal targets, wiring harnesses, and generators, and service and maintain this additional equipment. Provide unit training and assist in operation of the systems. Fuel and refuel generators as needed during the event(s). Remove components, make repairs, and prepare them following the exercise for the next event. Return targets to status ready for daytime firing. Perform other related duties as assigned. |
